I am back on that older pc trying to figure out some stuff, just really playing around. EMachines - T1090 - 900 Mzh - 20 gig Hd - 128 Ram - XP home.

    1. I ran the Avast Virus Cleaner Tool, and it came up with three temp files not scaned. I have and run CCleaner regulary with the new updates that come out for it, I don't think it is taking these out of the temp folder however.

    2. Didn't see how save a log file with the Avast Tool. so I am going to give the local and file name but not in exact font set.

    3. "ct\doc&set\local settings\perflib_perfdata_8d8.dat= not scaned"
    4. "tania'ssapce\localsettings\19bb18.dmp= not scaned"
    5. "windows\temp\zlt06b16.temp"

If you can help me to get rid of these if I need too, I would appreciate the help... Thanks CT

    1. Also Chas, I still have all the software we used on this pc thrying to figure out what was going on with it in the past. SpyBot S&D, Ad-aware SE w\vx2 cleaner tool, PestPatrol, CCLeaner, Avast home edtion, SpyBlaster, a2, all of them updated, and ran a2 online scaner, Norton online scaner, and Trend Micro online scaner.

    2. Nothing else except "Avast Virus cleaner tool" showed these files not scaned. Didn't want to run HJT until I hear from you to do so.

    3. Have System Restore unchecked, and hiden files and ext, readable. Never did restart or change settings for those because I still felt there was a problem. I don't use this pc now, but my daughter plays with it. So I would still like to figure this all out.

    Thanks CT

Not scanned does not mean they are infected. There are quite often files that cannot be scanned or deleted. Have you tried running your scan if Safe Mode with ALL other processes closed?

Did you try deleting the files (while in safe mode) by hand using Windows Explorer?

See that's why I ask you, no I did not think to try to remove from safe mode using explorer. But I wanted you to see the files names before I went any further anyway. Thought you might recognize them if they were bad. I'll try that and see what happens and let you know. Just seemed funny that the Avast Tool picked them up that way, and I have never seen them in any other scans before. Thanks Again.... :) CT

First try running a scan with Avast while in safe mode and see what happens!
