Blimey!!! I have trouble keeping warm when it gets below 10C. How do you cope?

8. Shiver Me Timbers

Actually we have learned to layer on lots of clothes here. Even in our homes, most have a couple layers of clothing on as we even keep our homes cool. Helps so we don't go through major shock the minute we step outside.

G.T. R.I.P February 4, 2007. You will be missed.

Helps reduce the shock of the heating bills each month too. :D

Rainy & high 60s today. Warm for here. "Normal" high this time of year is 48.

Lev MajorGeek

Do you get decent summers though? I guess I could tolerate the Michelin look if I knew I could unpeel all those layers come summer.

11. Shiver Me Timbers

Shiver Me Timbers MajorGeek

Actually we do have some nice summers and some cool ones too. Last summer was cool but nice. I wore a jacket for the most part of it and swimming was only for a couple of weeks. Each summer is usually different than the last. We even get our heat waves that can last for almost a week, running as high as 92F.

@GT, even keeping my house temps down, I still haven't seen a heating bill below $3000.00 per season. Real estate is cheap but the heating gets you in the long run.

heavy rains 50F, now zero visibility fog for the next two mornings with sunny afternoons.
Welcome to the San Joaquin Valley of California

In England, we swim all year round...we have to...it rains so much!!

14. Shiver Me Timbers

Shiver Me Timbers MajorGeek

@scorcer sounds like San Joaquin Valley of California is a very nice place to live. I think I could handle those temps quite easily. I'm afraid everyone would think I was nuts, walking around with a tee shirt and light jacket on, in those temps, but they do sound very nice.

@Lev I think I would prefer the snow to all that rain. Even when it's snowing we sometimes still get sunshine with it. Although I don't like the cold, I do enjoy my sunshine. :)

Now I am off to bed. A tad tired tonight. Goodnight everyone.

I agree. You can't chuck rain balls, you can't make rain men, and nobody gets excited when it starts raining!

We are just recovering from the worst storm we've had in 36 years... Many people are still without electricity and phone. And there is a new storm coming tonight!

Here is a quote from a local paper here:Other stories

Coldest weather in 8 years barrels down on Central Minnesota
Central Minnesotans, brace yourselves for the coldest weather this area has seen in eight years.

It's going to be "ridiculously cold," St. Cloud State University meteorologist Bob Weisman predicts. Low temperatures of 20 below zero or even 30 below zero are possible Friday and Saturday nights, he said. Wind chills will feel even colder -- between 20 below and 40 below Thursday, and between 30 below and 45 below Friday

Brrrrrrrrr.......................Sure wish I could stay home and not go to work.

We are having similar, high winds 70~100mph and heavy rain/flooding, fortunatly where I am we are not a flood risk area unless its really bad, wind still quite strong but its overcast/sunny.

Yeah, Halo, my friends in Leeds told me they had the same storm before we got it... I didn't know it was still windy in the UK though, guess that is what will hit us tonight...

Dammit, you've got to arrange some better weather for England soon, I'm coming over in a few weeks, and I was hoping I wouldn't freeze me arse off when I'm there! :D

Yeah, my dad lives out in the country. He was lucky, they got power back after 24 hours, but for that time they had no water, no light, no stove, no heat. He had saved a few buckets of water for food and sanitation, and he has a wood fuelled stove and a small alcohol driven cooker. And candles. But everyone has not been so lucky, they are evacuating people who don't have heat now. Still, after what has happened in Asia, we can complain!

I don't know how many inches of water so far, but we're at 179 percent of nomal for the year, and we get about 18 inches...but that's a math problem....all of the rain gage's in town don't work anymore, ie local cable channel, the weather channel's airport site......the city does have, rain gage's, but from what I can't figure out, I can only read the last 24 hours, and not the monly totals......but while we've had lots of rain......today it sunny, and going to be a high of 54f........wobbles

Yeah, pretty normal. We're the cold part of southern BC. The cold comes over the mountains from Alberta.
@lev Gets very warm here in the summer. 30-40C which is 80-90F or thereabouts. You get used to the cold, it's warmed up to -7C right now and feels quite nice. We're gonna chop a hole in the lake and go swimming! Coldest temp. I've experienced -42F orC. that was when I lived in Manitoba. I've never seen it that cold here.

Please tell me that was a joke!!! I won't get in an outdoor heated swimming pool in the UK in the middle of summer. Mind you...there isn't much difference between summer and winter in the UK most of the time. It will be so nice when I get back to the NW Pacific Coast to actually experience seasons once again.

We went from colder than normal, to a ton of snow out of nowhere, to VERY warm (50F right now) with heavy fog. In less than 2 days, we're supposed to be back down to -5F lows and 15F highs. It's the Michigan roller coaster!

It has been about 65 here lately. This is not winter weather.

The sad part is - I had several problems with my furnace during the coldest time we've had. Now, I have a brand new furnace and no reason to run it  .

Rain, lightning, and thunder yesterday. Today +14C. Tomorrow -6C forecasted. Will be heck on wheels on the roads. We usually don't get lightning and such this time of year, but in this northern part of the Americas the weather is very fickle..............it's said you can have all four seasons in the same town....i guess that's how myths start...;)

It's been warm (around 80) and kinda partly sunny around here (central Texas) for the last few days, But, YAY!!, a front blew through last night and it's sunny and in the mid 60's today...

My freaken car doors froze shut this morning. I had to heat the key up with a lighter to get it unlocked, and then I had to spend about 20 minutes heating the edges of the door with a hair dryer before it would let go. Ended up leaving for work 40 minutes later than I wanted to.

Doesn't matter what the temps are, that's just too damn cold.
