Platypus is the only mammal that is venomous. Spurs behind each hind leg can deliver poison.

    Watch out for Kodo. ;)

    But only kind of.....

Really it's a wonderful, because expansive and inclusive, manifestation of curiosity.

Surely the most usefully endearing, (or do I mean endearingly useful), of human traits.

A true Renaissance man knows the reawakening starts every morning.

    Respect

    ;) :D

Why does that look like you're trying to hide behind your words? ;)
That sentance is ingramatical and makes absolutley no sense. Care to rephrase that range of terms to ehnance the clarity of your communication? :p

Platypus, is a special kind of mammal known as a Monotreme (egg-laying mammals). Both native to country which I live, along with the Echidna (Spiny Anteater). And very few Australians have seen either. Go figure.

The Platypus looks so weird that when a stuffed specimen was first brought back to England, it was dismissed as a hoax, as nothing that freaky was thought possible!

The platypus (Ornithorhynchus anatinus), with its duck bill and webbed feet, is a unique Australian animal. It and the two species of echidna are the only monotremes or egg-laying mammals to be found on earth. The marsupials (mammals with pouches, e.g. kangaroos) and eutherians (placental mammals that give birth to well developed young, e.g. humans) both give birth to live young. The monotremes have lower body temperatures than other mammals and have legs which extend out, then vertically below them. These features together with their egg-laying are more like that of a lizard than a mammal.

Actually, it is only the males that have the poisonous spur, the venom of which is supposedly like that of a snake. There has only been one reported case of Platypus venom strike recorded in Australia.
