I decided I had enough fixing everyone's computers all day long at work, and took a break from MGs. Now I'm back. How's everyone?

I'm busy... a friend just dropped off her laptop and said it has "a horrible virus!". Yeah... it has Antivirus Live. And it's been installing, ahem, "nude photographs"? on her system too... :-D

 

Apparently there is this big world outside my house, that has all these weird things in it. Like other people, and stores with things you can buy... I thought the internet was where all these things were supposed to happen? :confused

Not really. The people on the photographs are, well... let's just say it's not a high-budget high-class production! LOL

 

What a clever virus, to be doing that - all by its self

Well let's just say that I have never seen a system tray spread out to cover the entire task bar so it can fit in all the fake alerts before...

I'm doing the Read&Run on the laptop right now, actually. SuperAntiSpyware has found over 40 infected items, and the screen keeps filling up with alerts that prompt me to download and install Antivirus Live so it can "protect" the computer. Since I'm not as gullible as my friend, I'm not clicking on them

 

Yup, that is a good idea, Mims! They will get you sorted out, for sure. You will be in the bestest hands, too ! Maybe they will need the luck!:-D

How odd! LOL For Christmas my sons and I bought my dad a used lappy from a gal pal of theirs . . . and it had the same problem! It took the better part of a day to clean out a host of trojans, viruses, adware, and the ever popular extortion ware "Antivirus 2010" . . . and by golly, it also was chock full of nekid pictures which she disavowed any knowledge of. She questioned her boyfriend, who professed his innocence in the strongest terms . . . so of course it MUST have been a virus, she said. :-D

Yeah - and Bob's your uncle, right?

I just cleaned a computer last nite with the 2010 antivirus on it, what a mess!

Couldn't download, only start in safe mode, finally got it so I could at least transfer the data files off it to a flash drive. That was at least 2 hours in. But she had a install disk so given a choice between battling for at least another 3 hours and then still having a crappy system and doing a fresh install in about an hour, I took the last.

BUT, darn, I didn't get to see even one nude picture!

Could I get a copy of that virus?

It's apparently very easy to get it. All you have to do is click on the pop-ups that warn you that your PC isn't protected, and it installs for you.

I officially take back every single negative or whiny thing I've said about my friend's computer habits. In an effort to show appreciation and thank me for helping her, she gave me a Sephora gift card.

I am almost seriously considering putting another major virus on her laptop. Almost. LOL
