My friend has problem that has been going on for week after her brother last used it and we think he might have been the cause. When I turn on the computer it wants to boot up, then it gives me a screen with multiple option and a countdown at the bottom of the screen. It says "Sorry for the inconvenience, windows did not start successfully..." It has some more text and then it allows me the following options:

    Safe Mode
    Safe Mode with Networking
    Safe Mode with Command Prompt
Last Known Good Configuration (your most recent settings that worked)
    Start Windows Normally

I've so far selected safe mode, last known..., and normally. They would reach the windows loading screen and after it seems that windows is loaded and about to enter the login screen, the computer reboots. If I just keep the computer on, it goes in a non-stop loop, and back to same options.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
    thx Sombra

you should also get a message to disable auto restart on error.

Choose this and post the whole error message that results.

Do you have a windows cd or manufacturers recover disk?

I had the same problem with my computer and i figured out that is was malicious software (Virus). My advise is that you either get a new computer (pretty expensive, ebay would be your best bet) or go to a computer specialist and have them wipe your hard drive clean and start from scratch.

There should also be another option. Disable automatic restart on system failure.

Try that option. When the computer reboots, it should instead show a BSOD (Blue screen of death). Post the info here.

I only say this, because, you can't boot normally, and you can't get into safe mode. So, the malware forum is kinda useless, unless they tell you what I told you, or use options within the recovery console. :)

Sombra - you have FOUR duplicate threads started in 3 different forums for exactly the same issue.

Please make ONLY one thread per issue, and in a forum that is relevant to the topic.

    Threads merged. Thank you.
