I am running windows XP service pack 2 and every time I turn the computer on and just after I sign in, a window opens up SOFTWARE UPDATE INSTALLATION WIZARD and it shows heading: Windows genuine advantage validation tool (KB892130). I have run this over 50 time in the last 8 months and it keeps telling me that it has D/loaded successfully. I have successfully deleted this update (KB892130) using Remove WGA.exe from the majorgeeks site and now when I check it tells me that wgatool has been removed. When I reboot again it's still there. I am not very computer smart but any help would be great. Many thanks in advance. Grumpy one.

The way I've dealt with WGA in the past was to go into the system32 folder, scroll way down toward the end, and manually delete the two files with 'wga' in the name. One is an .exe file, the other is a .dll file. After deleting (or renaming to .exx and .dlx instead of .exe and .dll), reboot and see if the problem is gone. It should be.

Thanks hd2k. I did as you advised but when in System 32 folder I could not find any mention of "WGA EXE or DLL" I think I deleted those files when I ran REMOVE WGA.EXE with a cleanup tool from MG's site. I have also tried to find the software update installation wizard using "SEARCH" but no help there as it can't find it. Back to the drawing board for this grumpy black duck. But thanks for your help. Regards Grumpy one.

The files aren't named 'wga.exe' or 'wga.dll' but they both start with 'wga....' I'm pretty sure the .exe is 'wgatray.exe' and I'm not sure about the .dll, but it does start with 'wga'. If the files aren't there.... well, then they're not there.... I'm not sure what to tell you  I just re-read your initial post and I think I may have misunderstood.... you have already removed the Windows Genuine Advantage software, but you're getting some type of message relating to WGA??? Can you clarify???

Hi HD2K and thanks for the help. The two files that were deleted by Remove WGA.exe were WgaLogon.dll and WgaTray.exe .These two files are no longer in System 32 Folder. But deleting has not solved my problem. What I am trying to get rid of is the box taht comes on just after I sign in at startup . The top of the is in blue and the writing in that area says SOFTWARE UPDATE INSTALLATION WIZARD. and inside the square box large writing saying "WINDOWS GENUINE ADVANTAGE VALIDATION TOOL (KB892130) also at the bottom of box there is instructions to load or delete. I have tried unsuccessfully for over 10 months to load this file and it goes through the process of finding space on computer and a blue bar runs from left to right and then tells me that WGA KB892130 has been successfully downloaded. I now just cancel instead of running. Also after I cancel another small box appears saying WGA892130 canceled. All is still there when I reboot. I hope this helps you. GRUMPY ONE
