Sometimes it says "Hard drive not connected" and others "BIOS not installed"? I am not sure but I think it is a faulty motherboard. How old is the motherboard? Do you have any disc that contains BIOS drivers?

and a little tip: try not to do so many typos. It makes it difficult for others to read the post and understand your problem. ;)

I dunno if this helps but...I have an ASUS P4P800-E Deluxe and whenever i boot up it goes through a drive check with possibly the same Fast Track controller; its a RAID controller and from my experiences it doesnt detect just one drive. Mine says the exact same thing, "Drive not found. The BIOS is not installed" but after that it just boots up fine, no problem. Not a problem for me so i dont see why it could be causing problems in your case...Does boot stop after you get that message?

"... allso camoes up with message bios not installed."

If the above is indeed the case, the machine won't find anything which you install. Either the bios chip is loose (not fully seated) or it may be cooked.

"... i can get it to boot up from cd rom usin9 the xp disc it gets so far then comes up cannot contuine harddrive not found ..."

However, if you can boot with a CD, so I suspect your bios is functioning. If the bios was really somehow cooked the machine won't have the parameters for booting with a floppy or CD.

Download the hard disk diagnostic utilities for Samsung hard disks here. Test the hard disk.

Have you switched out the IDE cables? Are you sure you have them in the right sockets? Do you have more than one hard drive installed?

When you boot into the bios, is it recognized there? Have you tried putting it on the secondary IDE in place of the cd drive?

Your gf's hard drive is set up for her computer, so it will not load with your hardware ...
I've also had puters that will not recognize certain hard drives....
Did you use any setup discs from the hard drive manufacturer prior to trying to use it?
Have you tried running any diagnostic utilities on that drive when slaved?

i have no diskd with hardrives as was brought from boot sale..however the hd wont be picked up by my gfs comp when on slave..her computer acts sluggish
an freezes now an then.so unanle to run anythin to check if its the hardrive.

Many of the disk diagnostics (which I linked to in my #6 reply) will bypass the bios and "talk" directly to the hard disk. If there's anything left of the disks logic board/firmware etc, the diagnostics should find the disk.

If you have a working floppy drive on the problem machine, I again suggest you test the disk.
