i installed and ran Roadkil's Unstoppable copier for Windows 2.2 to try and recover some songs from a damaged CD i have but it appears the cd is so bad that it cant even read the disc.

Is there any way round this at all?

    Thanks in advance

Damaged in what way, corrupt data or physically damaged scratches etc?

If scratches, possible to polish some not so deep ones out ( so long as its not lost the reflective layer ) with toothpaste or brasso. Only polish with very soft cloth, spectacle cloth and only rub in a straight line from outside to inside disk and not circular as in round the disk.

Yeh its physical damage, unfortunately you can see stright thru the disk where the damage is. I have tried cloths to try and give it a light clean to see if that helped but no joy.

    I think i might have lost it.......

Is it worth trying, on the label side, to use a black marking pen to ink over the spot where you can see through the CD. Dunno, might work. Bazza

there is no label, it was a CD-RW disc. Sometimes you get it open on the PC but it does it very rarely.

Anything you have in the house that you could sick to the top of the disk but has a metalic shiny underside, may help in reflecting the laser back?

Be careful with this suggestion. Even a sticky label can throw a CD out of balance as it spins up. Bazza

Nope, but if the scratch has come from the top surface, its possible but slim chance that reflective material put back ontop would allow the laser read the pits past the damaged section so you may only loose some of the data, BUT its very slim once you have a deep scratch in the metal layer.

Still try a marking pen, on the non-data side. It might work. Bazza
