High CPU and core temperatures on new PC??

    Hello all,

I just bought a brand new computer and I've been struggling to understand whether the temperatures I'm getting for the CPU and cores are too high and if I should bring it back to the store for diagnosing. :confused

AMD Phenom 9500 with M3A mobo
    BFG GF8800 GTS 512
    2 GB Corsair XMS DDR2-800
    Antec Sonata III case
    Vista Home Premium

I have Cool N Quiet enabled in the BIOS and Q-Fan disabled. AMD CPU fan runs at 2900 rpm. I have tried all of the following softwares: PC Probe II, PC Wizard 2008, SpeedFan, Everest Ultimate, CPU-Z and Core Temp.

All of the above that measure CPU temp and/or core temps show approximately the same values +/-2 C and also match BIOS reading:

On Balanced Power settings (core speed stays mainly at 1.1 GHz):
    CPU is ~ 45 C
    Core 1-4 are ~ 34 C
(Core voltage is about 1.1 V. Nothing special running other than what is loaded in system tray, browsing, email, etc., but if running 3D online game CPU is between 50 - 55 C with cores adjusting by same relative amount)

On Performance Power settings (core speed stays at 2.2 GHz):
    CPU is ~ 56 C
    Core 1-4 are ~ 43 C
(Core voltage is about 1.22 V. Nothing special running other than what is loaded in system tray, browsing, email, etc., but if running 3D online game CPU is between 57 - 60+ C with cores adjusting by same relative amount).

My first thought was that the CPU temp was way too high given that the spec says that the max is 70 C. But the core temps are actually reading lower than the CPU temp... shouldn't it be the other way around? Atleast that is what I've observed on Intel's Q6600 using Everest.

I've tried reading up on google and other forums such as AMD and ASUS, but have found conflicting answers. I've talked to other computer owners, but they are not familiar with AMD computers (and they all own Q6600s!!)

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!!!!! :)

Your temps are not too high, esp. on the Balanced settings, those temps are totally acceptable. When gaming, it's natural for temps to rise and from what I see you are well within the safe zone..... personally, I wouldn't worry :cool
