Hi, a friend of mine is having a big problem. When he tries to go onto any website he is hijacked, taking him through various different sites, such as clearask.com brittaniasearch.com web-analytics.google.com and lots of IPS are written on the bottom. Then a page shows saying that he was 'Unable to connect' and to check the network. I told him to add the zone alarm firewall. Then run spybot s&d and immunize and scan. Then run ad-aware. But the problem remains, heres a HJT log i can't see any problems but im an ammateur.

Logfile of Trend Micro HijackThis v2.0.2
Scan saved at 20:47:29, on 9/16/2008
Platform: Windows XP SP2 (WinNT 5.01.2600)
    MSIE: Internet Explorer v7.00 (7.00.6000.16705)
    Boot mode: Normal

Edit by chaslang: Inline HJT log removed. READ & RUN ME sticky not followed.

    Thanks for any help!

    Welcome to Major Geeks!

Please follow the instructions in the below link and attach the requested logs when you finish these instructions.

READ & RUN ME FIRST. Malware Removal Guide
    • If something does not run, write down the info to explain to us later but keep on going.
    • Do not assume that because one step does not work that they all will not.
    Notes:

    1. If you run into problems trying to run the READ & RUN ME or any of the scans in normal boot mode. You can run steps in safe boot mode but make sure you tell us what you did later when you post logs. See the below if you do not know how to boot in safe mode:
    2. If you have problems downloading on the problem PC, download the tools on another PC and burn to a CD. Then copy them to the problem PC. You will have to skip getting updates if (and only if) your internet connection does not work. Yes you could use a flash drive too but flash drives are writeable and infections can spread to them.

    Hi,

I did as follow, the problems seem to reduce abit. However my friend has told me that he also gets warning messages from the 'system32' location saying scanning and then be patient, im pretty sure its malware and worried its a hacker. The browser redirect problem has reduced however, here are 2 logs, 2 more are to follow shortly. I would be grateful if you could look at these first, as it's not my computer im only providing instructions so it takes me a while to get all your instructions completed (over the phone).

You need to disable Spybot's Teatimer as requested in the READ & RUN ME.

The instructions that I gave to you in my last message have to be run from beginning to end in the order written. Did you run scans in the correct order? It does not look like it since no log for SUPERAntiSpyware seems to exist. Also did ComboFIx run okay?

I need logs from SUPERAntiSpyware and ComboFix and if you are running them now for the first time, you will have to run MGtools again since things were run out of order.

Run this Disable/Remove Windows Messenger to remove Windows Messenger. Do not confuse Windows Messenger with MSN Messenger because they are not the same. Windows Messenger is a frequent cause of popups.

Also uninstall the below old versions of Sun Java as requested in step 1 of the READ & RUN ME:
    J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0

    Then reboot.
After reboot, now install the current version of Sun Java from: Sun Java Runtime Environment
