    Hello,

It looks like both Internet Explorer and Firefox have been hijacked in my computer. Everytime I search for something in google and click on one of the results I get redirected to different sites (happili.com, click.get-answers-fast.com). I've followed the steps in READ&RUN ME FIRST.
My antivirus (Symantec) does not detect anything after a full scan.

I am attaching both the TDSSkiller log and the MBRcheck log.

    Thank you so much.

logs hijacked browsers - Internet explorer and firefox

I apologize for not attaching all the logs before.

I've run all the tools now and I still get redirected when performing searches using Firefox.
It looks like the problem is solved for Internet Explorer, at least for now.

Had problems running the SUPERAntiSpyware first, even after renaming to SAS.EXE. Kept receiving the message "This application has failed to star because WINSPOOL.DRV was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem." The portable version did not work either.

I ran Malwarebytes, combofix, and MGtools, and then tried again with Superantispyware. It ran correctly this time but found no threats, although as I said I am still having problems.

All files are attached. Thank you very very much.

Please disable all anti-virus and anti-spyware programs while we do the following (re-enable when you are finished):

Run C:\MGtools\analyse.exe by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator). This is really HijackThis (select Do a system scan only) and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:

    R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = http://search.my-tools-app.com/?babsrc=home&s=web&as=0&isid=9852
    O3 - Toolbar: (no name) - {7FEBEFE3-6B19-4349-98D2-FFB09D4B49CA} - (no file)

    After clicking Fix exit HJT.

Now we need to use ComboFix by sUBs

    • Make sure that combofix.exe that you downloaded while doing the READ & RUN ME is on your Desktop but Do not run it!
      • If it is not on your Desktop, the below will not work.
    • Also make sure you have shut down all protection software (antivirus, antispyware...etc) or they may get in the way of allowing ComboFix to run properly.
    • If ComboFix tells you it needs to update to a new version, make sure you allow it to update.
    • Open Notepad and copy/paste the text in the below quote box. Ensure you scroll down to select ALL the lines:
    Code:
    KILLALL::

    Firefox::
    FF - ProfilePath - c:\users\Mariano\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\9vcjwun6.default\
    mStart Page = hxxp://search.my-tools-app.com/?babsrc=home&s=web&as=0&isid=9852
    FF - prefs.js: keyword.URL - hxxp://search.my-tools-app.com/?babsrc=home&s=web&as=0&isid=9852&q=
    File::
    c:\programdata\Microsoft\Windows\DRM\81B1.tmp.dat
    • Save the above as CFscript.txt and make sure you save it to the same location (should be on your Desktop) as ComboFix.exe
    • At this point, you MUST EXIT ALL BROWSERS NOW before continuing!
    • You should have both the ComboFix.exe and CFScript.txt icons on your Desktop.
    • Now use your mouse to drag CFscript.txt on top of ComboFix.exe

      http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v666/sUBs/CFScriptB-4.gif

    • Follow the prompts.
    • When it finishes, a log will be produced named c:\combofix.txt
    • I will ask for this log below

    Note:

Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.

If after running Combofix you discover none of your programs will open up, and you recieve the following error: "Illegal operation attempted on a registry key that has been marked for deletion". Then the answer is to REBOOT the machine, and all will be corrected.

    Download Cleano 0.61

Download it to your desktop, Right click the cleano.exe file and run as admin > and place check marks in the boxes as follows (click on link below to see image)

    View attachment 148092
Click clean now and exit the program.

Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it. (Right click and run as admin if using Vista or Windows7) Then attach the new C:\MGlogs.zip file that will be created by running this.

Let me know of any problems you may have encountered with the above instructions and also let me know how things are running now!

First of all, thank you very much for your help.

I've followed your instructions and it looks like I still have a problem in Firefox. Links in google keep redirecting me to different sites, especially addedsucess.com. (Although the site does not actually open, Firefox says: unable to connect. Firefox can't establish a connection to the server at addedsucess.com

Internet explorer seems to be working well. I've tried a few searches in google and I am not getting redirected. I've noticed, however, that there is a new logo in my desktop with the Internet explorer logo that just says "The Internet", and it does not have the arrow indicating that it is a shortcut. I don't know if this is normal.

I am attaching the combofix and MG logs.

    Thanks again!

We are going to be uninstalling your old version of FireFox and installing the new version. So do the below to save bookmarks:

    • Run FireFox and click Bookmarks.
    • Then select Organize Bootmarks.
    • Then on the next window click File and then select Export. Save the bookmarks.html file to your Desktop for later use in importing.
Now download and save the installer for the current version of FireFox but DO NOT install it yet. Get it here: Mozilla FireFox

You will need exit FireFox now and use Internet Explorer to continue with the below until we reinstall FireFox.

Start by uninstalling FireFox and then reboot. Do not skip the reboot.
After reboot, delete the below folders:
    • C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox
    • C:\users\UserAccount\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox

where UserAccount is the actual user account name being used.

    DO NOT reinstall it yet.

Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it. (Right click and run as admin if using Vista or Windows7) Then attach the new C:\MGlogs.zip file that will be created by running this.

    Delete this folder.
    C:\ProgramData\Mozilla

Now reinstall Firefox and tell me if it is still redirecting or not.

    Hi Kestrel,

I've reinstalled Firefox and I am not getting redirected anymore, so it looks like that problem is solved. Thanks.

The only thing is that both browsers are quite slow now (I've been having this problem with Explorer and it looks like Firefox is the same.) Sometimes pages won't load until I try several times. I don't think it has to do with mi internet connection because my other laptop is working just fine.

Also there is this new logo that was created in my desktop at some point, it is identical to the Internet Explorer logo but just says "The Internet" and does not have the little arrow of a shortcut. It might be nothing but I don't know where did it come from.

    -Thanks again.

You can just delete it. :)

If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. We recommend you keep SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware. Unless you purchase them, they provide no protection. They do not use any significant amount of resources ( except a little disk space ) until you run a scan.
    2. If we had you use ComboFix, uninstall ComboFix (This uninstall will only work as written if you installed ComboFix on your Desktop like we requested.)
      • Click START then RUN and enter the below into the run box and then click OK. Note the quotes are required
      • "%userprofile%\Desktop\combofix" /uninstall
        • Notes: The space between the combofix" and the /uninstall, it must be there.
        • This will uninstall ComboFix and also reset hidden files and folders settings back to Windows defaults.
    3. Go back to step 6 of the READ ME and renable your Disk Emulation software with Defogger if you had disabled it.
    4. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
    5. If we had you download any registry patches like fixme.reg or fixWLK.reg (or any others), you can delete these files now.
    6. If running Vista, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    7. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis.
    8. Goto the C:\MGtools folder and find the MGclean.bat file. Double click on this file to run this cleanup program that will remove files and folders
related to MGtools and some other items from our cleaning procedures.
    9. If you are running Win 7, Vista, Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below:
      • Refer to the cleaning procedures pointed to by step 7 of the READ ME
for your Window version and see the instructions to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points.
      • Then reboot and Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.
    10. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:

Everything seems to be working fine now.

    Thanks a lot Kestrel!
