    Hi

I ran through the tutorial posted here for using HijackThis. And although I'm not getting the problems I had before (Google searches were redirecting through to dodgy websites) my computer is still running very slowly.

I've attached the logs. And I spotted the dodgy URL (85.255.114.52) in it. Does this mean I'm still infected? Is it safe to do my internet banking?

In addition to the tests suggested in the tutorial, I have Windows Defender and Trend Micro PC-cillin 2006 installed. I could not get PANDA or BitDefender to run. Will keep trying them.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Cheers
    Ben Trollip

Please run the below procedure and attach the requested log:

    WareOut Removal

Then Run HijackThis and select any of the following lines that still remain but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:

    R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings,ProxyServer = http=localhost:8080

    After clicking Fix, exit HJT.

Now attach the below new logs and tell me how the above steps went.

    1. GetRunKey
    2. ShowNew
    3. HJT

    NOTES:
    1. You have Ad-aware 6 Personal installed. This version has not been used in three years. You should uninstall this and install the current version: Ad-Aware SE Personal
    2. You also have Spybot - Search & Destroy 1.3 installed which is not the version we gave to you in the READ & RUN. The version you are using is also about 3 years out of date. You should uninstall this and install the current version from the READ ME.

Hi, thanks for the quick reply.

Have followed your instructions. Attached are the 3 logs from HJT, GetRunKey and ShowNew. I will reply with the FixWareout log after this.

Sorry I didn't spot the wrong versions of Ad-aware and Spybot. Will uninstall and update now.

Also, am updating my 2006 version of Trend Pc-Cillan to 2007 version.

Could you let me know if I'm ok please?

    Thanks

Other than one item mentioned in rapport.txt, you are clean. Look for and delete the below file if found.

    C:\WINDOWS\System32\{4A730E4A-15DE-482E-ABE5-98CF27544519}.exe

If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. If we used Pocket Killbox during your cleanup, do the below
      • Run Pocket Killbox and select File, Cleanup, Delete All Backups
    2. If we used ComboFix you can delete the ComboFix.exe file and associated C:\combofix.txt log that was created.
    3. If we user SDFix you can delete all the SDFix related files and folders from your Desktop or whereever you installed it.
    4. If we used VundoFix, you can delete the VundoFix.exe file and the C:\VundoFix Backups folder and C:\vundofix.txt log that was created.
    5. If we had your run FixWareOut, you can delete the Fixwareout.exe file and the C:\fixwareout folder.
    6. If we had you download any registry patches like fixme.reg or fixWLK.reg (or any others), you can delete these files now.
    7. You can delete the ShowNew.Zip and GetRunkey.Zip files and the files that you extracted from the ZIP files. You can also delete the C:\newfiles.txt and C:\runkeys.txt logs that were created
    8. If you are running Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below:
      • go back to step 8 of the READ & RUN ME to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points.
      • Then reboot and Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.
    9. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:
