HijackThis log

    My son has a new HP Pavilion a1410n with Windows XP. I ran HijackThis on it because there is a strange white box in the upper left corner of his screen (about 4" x 2"). You can put icons over it but sometimes it shows up with scroll bars in it (on the right side and on the bottom as if it's a window). I'm not sure how it got there but it could have been from some sort of desktop weather program he downloaded and deleted. He's 12 and doesn't understand not to do that stuff. Anyway, I have attached the log and there seems to be A LOT of stuff in it. I'm not sure what is safe to delete and what I should keep. Any help would be appreciated. I've already run Xoftspy and Ad-aware to get rid of the spyware.

    Welcome to Majorgeeks!

    Please follow our standard cleaning procedures which are necessary for us to provide you support. Also there are steps included for installing, running, and posting HijackThis logs as attachments. Make sure you install HJT properly per step 7 of the READ ME because you were running it incorrectly in your log.
    • Run ALL the steps in this Sticky thread READ & RUN ME FIRST Before Asking for Support
    • Make sure you check version numbers and get all updates.
    • Very Important: Make sure you tell us the results from running the tutorial...was anything found? Were you unable to complete any of the scans?...Were you unable to download any of the tools?...Did you do the on-line scans as suggested? etc.
    • After doing ALL of the above you still have a problem make sure you have booted to normal mode and run the steps in the below link to properly use HijackThis and attach a log:
    • When you return to make your next post, make sure you attach the following logs and that you have run these scans in the following order too (these scans are covered in steps 6 & 7 of the READ & RUN ME sticky)
      • Bitdefender
      • Panda Scan
      • HijackThis
