Well looks like ole Bill is going to get married. Good for him. Always seems like a nice guy, and never really hear anything bad about him, or doing something stupid like wearing a swastika to a party ala his brother Harry.

Oddly enough, I was watching the PBS special "Monarchy" which follows the Queen around for a year. I know some people do not favor the monarchy, but lets face it, a Britain with a monarchy would be like men in France without mistresses. lol

Anyway, good on him. Will likely be a huge affair no doubt.

Edit: Can someone edit the title of this thread to read "His Royal Highness" because apparently, "His Majesty" should only be used when addressing a king.

Only bonus is that we will gain a bank holiday extra day off work, but downside is in this period of austerity it will cost the poor British tax payer a fortune, not so bad for public relations and tourism but not great when the Royal family (especially his father and hers) are multi millionaires!!! and could pay for it all.

Yep, not yet a King and unlikely to become a King.
He is second-in-line to the throne.

Who knows if Queen Elizabeth may skip her son and "anoint" her grandson to be King? Charles is the King in waiting.... and waiting.... and waiting. He must have p*ssed her off royally.

Personally I don't know if I'd been amused by having received Diana's engagement ring given by Charles. Passing the ring on from a tragic life that resulted in death from one princess to the next to be princess would be yuck, I think. Perhaps others see it differently.

Of course, British economy will prosper with all the tourism and stuff that will be created to be marketed.

I guess I'm just a typical American in that I just don't get it. It is such an outdated institution (at least they don't actually run anything as far as I know). The fact that they are beyond wealthy and don't pay for their own humongous wedding is appalling.

I'm with you, Oma. There isn't a chance in hell I'd want Diana's ring to start my marriage. She was married to a cheat and died way too young.

Charles has said he will pay for the wedding but taxes will foot the bill for policing and security that is expected to be in excess of 20 million.

I was a royalist until Charles, who in my opinion should never be on the throne, he is so self centered (just like his father) and can not hold a candle to his mother who has been the last of the royals with any respect for the position they hold.

I'm a typical Brit who just doesn't get either:-D Seeing that ring go on her finger seemed obscurely prophetic the marriage doesn't stand has about as much chance of working as RollsRoyce Trent 900 engine, she's like one of the Red uniforms in StarTrek, crewman No.1,she already looks jumpy:-D

One of the things she's head of is the church of England, her and her family set a moral example for us all in the eyes of God rolleyes Her husband has apparently had a string of affairs 'the current king' Her son Andrew got divorced and then her other son had an affair, then of course got divorced and now her grandson has been involved in pre marital fornication.:-D

    Sinners!

French Canada's royalty, Celine Dion and Rene's wedding was held in Montreal's equivalent cathedral. Ya, they paid their own way but the taxpayer's footed the security bill which most if not all of these fanatics were gladly willing to pay.rolleyes
I don't think they even pay taxes over here anymore.

You yanks can keep her for all I care.:puke :-D

    You got that right Bill.

As Charles said when he got engaged to Diana. .....Whatever love means.... rolleyes :( Yeah, he loved the already married Camilla but needed a good young breeding machine of good stock to produce heirs.

I noticed that Kate walked a few steps behind William and not at his side. Must be protocol. rolleyes

Well the wedding wouldnt be a massive cost to him, yes likely more than your average wedding but still not in the leagues of what you mention Bill in the policing and other disruption costs will be,

At this point in time, the Royals will in their planning need to be very careful of not going to extravagent, as the rest of the population are feeling the pinch of the austerity measures, if they do what his gran did when she married after the war, then the public may not complain too much, we shall see.

LMAO as I noticed ASDA are already selling commemorative mugs!!

One thing I dont get and this is a snobbish thing is that some scuttlebutt is saying she will have to change her name to Katherine from Kate.... HUH WHY?

You yanks can have the British royal family from me as well. I don't think they pay taxes here either.

Every year they all flock here to visit which costs us taxpayers a bundle. Why o why do they love us so much that they can't do without us. ;)

At least Prince William is looking better than his father who is always tugging at his sleeves or cuff-links and stiff as a marionette. Must not be easy being a prince/princess and always in the limelight.

I used to like princess Margaret. Not as formal as her sister the Queen.

Yeah, mugs on mugs already. Nice pics.

    To put one thing straight.
Apparently Diana passed the ring down to her son with the suggestion that the ring be used again, when he got engaged.
    (from a "Royalty" magazine apparently)
I heard this in an interview with a Royals watcher

If true, "probably" did so prior to her early untimely death. :( Things were a bit different then.

Whats wrong with this is how Cameron thinks he can give a day off to the workers of the UK when its actually the small businesses that pay for it by and large through wages and lost business if you are not selling mugs and plates.

Its not as if William is King or even next in line, he is an upper class snob who wouldn't even talk to someone who had to actually earn a living from work unless the press were there.

Cameron must think we are all victorian idiots doffing caps and being grateful. We are not, wake up, smell the 21st century.

protocol dictates that only the seniors walk in front and that you only speak if spoken to. Also when in the queens presence you must always be facing her and when leaving her you must remember to walk back wards out of the room you must never turn your back on her and that rule applies to everyone except her own children
Recommended EtiquetteUpon being introduced to The Queen, and on leaving, a bow or curtsy is made.
•The bow is an inclination of the head, not from the waist.
•The curtsy should be a discreet but dignified bob.
In conversation, address The Queen as 'Your Majesty', and subsequently 'Ma'am' (to rhyme with Pam).
When conversing with The Queen, substitute 'Your Majesty' for 'you'.
When introducing another person to The Queen, simply state the name of the person to be introduced:
'May I present Mr John Smith, Your Majesty?'
if the conversation goes a little deep always remember to stay on topic at all times just like in this forum rolleyes:-D

Unless you are personally known to the Sovereign, any letter to The Queen should be addressed to 'The Private Secretary to Her Majesty The Queen'. There is no need to address the private secretary by name, but if there is subsequent correspondence this should be addressed to the actual writer of the reply.

    Commence the letter Dear Sir
    Close the letter Yours faithfully
First reference to The Queen Her Majesty The Queen
Subsequent references to The Queen The Queen
Substitute 'she' and 'her' With 'Her Majesty' and 'Her Majesty's'
    Envelope The Private Secretary to
    Her Majesty The Queen
    Buckingham Palace
    London SW1A 1AA

Invitations from The QueenThe Queen's invitations are sent by:
The Lord Steward of the Household to a state banquet.
The Lord Chamberlain to all major court functions such as a garden party, wedding, funeral or memorial service.
The Master of the Household to all domestic functions given by The Queen at Buckingham Palace, or where The Queen is resident.
All invitations from The Queen are commands, and a suitably worded reply should be addressed to the member of HM's Household who issued the invitation:
you must reply to her as is very bad protocol not to also your reply should be posted with a first class stamp correctly aligned to the envelope and not just placed anyhow also your reply should be prompt

Non-Acceptance of an Invitation from The QueenThe reason for non-acceptance should be stated (a 'prior engagement' is not considered to be a sufficient reason for failing to obey The Queen's command).
'Colonel and Mrs John Brown present their compliments to the Master of the Household, and much regret that they are unable to obey Her Majesty's command to luncheon on May 10th owing to the illness of Mrs Brown.'
the above is OK for not attending as minimum

Her majesty is OK and have met them all many times over the years but not to talk to
In my service at the bank of england my role as valet parlor messenger was to serve the governor and director's and it was in this capacity i would get to meet head of states and diplomat's
I'm sure the queen would find Malware a fascinating subject Tim as she would have no knowledge of it whatsoever
