The first trailer I saw for this was just a starscape with the number 42 set up in a constellation... I think I was the only dude in the theater who knew what it meant lol :D

Maybe in America and Canada, most people don't know what it means. In Australia and Britain, most sentient life forms know this is the answer to the Universe, the meaning of life....and everything. ;)

Yep, Zephod, keeps his spare head tucked away (good advice for evryone, i.m.o.) Mavin looks kinda like a bleached out version of Looney Toon's Martian, without the Roman helmet, LoL!

Well, at least Marvin sounds suitably depressed, although I prefer the original radio voice (he's probably dead by now).

I'm one of the 163 people that actually played Starship Titannic, the computer game derived from HGTTG. The game had several video clips of Douglas Adams, not accessible through the game, but accessible through Windows Explorer, just stuck in a folder on the disk. Something of an Easter Egg, I guess.

Better make that 164, Gary ;)

I think I got rather fed up with it, or something else took my interest or something. I know I didn't complete the game, although I got a fair way into it.

I didn't know about the extra vid. clips, though. I'll have to dig up my old Titanic game and take a look.

Yes, I think the radio voice guy has passed on, or at leat he must be REAL old by now. I do have a copy of the latest H.G.T.T.G. radio series. (A script by Douglas Adams, but never aired, until now). Six episodes, I.R.R.C.

Here, I would say about 50% of the population my age and 10 years older would know the significance of the number 42 and would laugh if you made a reference to it. The other 50% would be looked upon as uncultivated! :D

I re-read the books, at least the books 1-4, about once every other year, usually on the tube to pass the time. Only problem is, some of the parts literally have me laughing out loud and rocking back and forth with tears coming out... I often have strangers approaching me asking what I'm reading. When I show them what it is, they usually laugh and say: "That explains it!"

Will go see the movie. I think I will like it more than I liked the LOTR movies... Lol. And the vogons really do look ugly enough! :D I love what they have done to Zaphod's head, it explains how he could hide it at that party... :D

And it's so much cheaper than having to do special effects for every one of his scenes. ;)

True... And it would have been very difficult to make it any other way with a good result I think.

Do you have a lot of patience? :D

It's a straight "adventure" game, primarily hunting and problem solving. And the ship is as annoyingly absurd and politely unhelpful as you'd expect from something that Douglas Adams had his fingers in. It's a very old game, but like most adventure games the backgrounds are well detailed, as are the characters from what I remember. It obviously has none of the current lighting and shadow effects, but you won't miss them. And I don't know if it will run happily on Windows XP, but yeah, it's worth giving it a try. Definitely nose around on the disk for the folder that has the Douglas Adams clips.

Or maybe not. I dusted it off, installed it, tweaked compatibility, found & downloaded two VERY old patches, and it's glitchy in WinXP. Lots of the video doesn't display; you get sound, but no picture. Would be both frustrating and difficult to play this way.

Yes --roger that. I just tried my copy and found it rather flaky in XP. Good thing I have a 98 box around here someplace. ;)

Is this similar to that game where you are on the Vogon ship and have to get a Babel fish from a vending machine? If I recall you had to put your ear to the machine to catch the fish before it went down a grate but you several obstacles to overcome to get the fish.

I'm not familiar with that game, so I haven't a clue.

Not at all. That's a text based game I played back in the late eighties. Or was it early nineties? Anyway, I think you had to catch the fish in your bag. I'm not sure.

The game we are discussing here is much more recent than that.

They finally made a movie of it? Brilliant!

I bought the "Trilogy of five" a couple of weeks ago, I'm at book number 3 now. I love it!
I also saw the TV series, but that only applies to the first book....

Oh well, looking forward to the movie!
