    Running Windows XP SP2

I can ping websites by name and by IP address. However I can only view websites in Internet Explorer 6 when I start up the PC in Safe mode with Networking. The computer has an expired Norton Internet Security.

    What I've done so far:
Booted the PC in Safe Mode with networking and:
Updated then ran Adaware: caught a few things, did not fix the problem
Ran CWShredder: did not catch anything
Installed, updated, and ran AVG antivirus: did not catch anything
Ran Spysweeper: did not catch anything

I have attached my HJT log. Let me know what other information you guys need.

    Thanks for your help.

Welcome to MajorGeeks.com, please follow the steps below:

http://www.majorgeeks.com/images/grenade.gif Run ALL the steps in this Sticky thread READ & RUN ME FIRST Before Asking for Support

    • Make sure you check version numbers and get all updates.
http://www.majorgeeks.com/images/grenade.gif Very Important: Make sure you tell us the results from running the tutorial...was anything found? Were you unable to complete any of the scans?...Were you unable to download any of the tools?...Did you do the on-line scans as suggested? etc.

http://www.majorgeeks.com/images/grenade.gifAfter doing ALL of the above and you still have a problem, make sure you have booted to normal mode and run the steps in the below thread to properly use HijackThis and attach the log:

http://www.majorgeeks.com/images/grenade.gif Downloading, Installing, and Running HijackThis

http://www.majorgeeks.com/images/grenade.gif When you return to make your next post, make sure you attach the following logs and that you have run these scans in the following order too (these scans are covered in steps 6 & 7 of the READ & RUN ME sticky)
    • Bitdefender
    • Panda Scan
    • HijackThis

It ended up being Norton Internet Security, everything worked as soon as I deleted it.

Very typical for NIS, so do you want to proceed with cleaning?

I unfortunately gave the pc back to the owners, they were in a big rush to get it back. I'm guessing that you can see junk on their computer from the HJT logs....

I did run adaware, spysweeper, ect so they should be alright for a few months anyways!

Okay, sounds good, if you ran SS they should be ok for a while because SS is rate #1 for antispyware programs.

I would recommend your telling them to follow the steps in this article on How to Protect yourself from malware!
