OK I know I have done this before last year and using some things I picked up before I have run through the read and run procedure 3 times so far before posting. I have even used the HJT log analyzers and followed what they told me to fix. Saturday, all of a sudden, my computer and more so my internet (wireless connection with internal card) starting moving slower than a Trash 80. So I am asking for your help. I have also killed Viewpoint 2x since I started and there are a couple things in HJT listed as O2 Toolbar with (no name) that keep coming back. I would really appreciate your help.

Also I ran CCleaner, Spybot and AVG in safe mode but I could not hook to the net even with networking enabled so Bitdefender and Panda were run in normal.

Uninstall the below old versions of software:
    J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 11

Make sure you reboot after uninstalling the above!

After reboot, now install the current version of Sun Java from: Sun Java Runtime Environment

Run HijackThis (select Do a system scan only) and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:
    O2 - BHO: (no name) - {02478D38-C3F9-4EFB-9B51-7695ECA05670} - (no file)
    O2 - BHO: (no name) - {5BAB4B5B-68BC-4B02-94D6-2FC0DE4A7897} - (no file)
    O2 - BHO: (no name) - {7E853D72-626A-48EC-A868-BA8D5E23E045} - (no file)
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [DVDLauncher] "C:\Program Files\CyberLink\PowerDVD\DVDLauncher.exe"
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [UpdateManager] "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Sonic\Update Manager\sgtray.exe" /r
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [QuickTime Task] "C:\Program Files\QuickTime\qttask.exe" -atboottime
    O16 - DPF: {CAFEEFAC-0015-0000-0010-ABCDEFFEDCBA} (Java Plug-in 1.5.0_10) -

    After clicking Fix, exit HJT.

Now download The Avenger by Swandog46, and save it to your Desktop.
    • Extract avenger.exe from the Zip file and save it to your desktop
    • Run avenger.exe by double-clicking on it.
    • Check the 'Input script manually' box.
    • Click on the magnifying glass icon.
    • Copy everything in the Quote box below, and paste it in the box that opens:
    • Now click the 'Done' button.
    • Click on the traffic light icon and OK the prompt.
    • You will be prompted to restart, OK the prompt and your PC should reboot, if not, reboot it yourself.
    • A log file from Avenger will be produced at C:\avenger.txt
Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune. This program does not require an installation. The executable actually runs the program.

NOTE: This program is for Windows XP and Windows 2000 only. ATF Cleaner will remove all files from the items that are checked so if you have some cookies you'd like to save. Please move them to a different directory first.
    • Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
    • Under Main choose: Select All
    • Click the Empty Selected button.
    If you use Firefox browser
    • Click Firefox at the top and choose: Select All
    • Click the Empty Selected button.
      • NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt.
    If you use Opera browser
    • Click Opera at the top and choose: Select All
    • Click the Empty Selected button.
      • NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt.
Click Exit on the Main ATF Cleaner menu to close the program.

Now attach the below new logs and tell me how the above steps went.

    1. Avenger
    2. GetRunKey
    3. ShowNew
    4. HJT

Make sure you tell me how things are working now!

Reminder Note: Once we have determined you are malware free you will need to disable System Restore, reboot, and re-enable system restore per step 8 of the READ & RUN ME. This only applies to if using WinXP or WinMe.

It is a little better but still running very slowly. I am trying to post the new logs, but you site has the attach files disabled, I am not sure why. I will come back in a few and try again.

Make sure you are trying to attach new logs and not the same logs. Also click refresh a couple of time if you are having problems with the Manage Attachments button. Also emptying your browser cache could help.

    Your logs are clean!

You can have HijackThis fix the below non-malware items. They are not needed and will waste some system resources. Other than this you will have to look elsewhere to resolve your speed problems.

    O2 - BHO: SSVHelper Class - {761497BB-D6F0-462C-B6EB-D4DAF1D92D43} - C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.6.0_03\bin\ssv.dll (file missing)
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [SunJavaUpdateSched] "C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.6.0_03\bin\jusched.exe"
    O4 - Global Startup: Adobe Reader Speed Launch.lnk = C:\Program Files\Adobe\Reader 8.0\Reader\reader_sl.exe

    You're welcome.

If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. If we used Pocket Killbox during your cleanup, do the below
      • Run Pocket Killbox and select File, Cleanup, Delete All Backups
    2. If we used ComboFix, you can delete the ComboFix.exe file, C:\ComboFix folder, C:\QooBox folder, C:\WINDOWS\nircmd.exe, and the C:\combofix.txt log that was created.
    3. If we user SDFix you can delete all the SDFix related files and folders from your Desktop or whereever you installed it.
    4. If we used SmitFraudFix, you can delete all files and folders related to it now including the c:\rapport.txt log.
    5. If we used VundoFix, you can delete the VundoFix.exe file and the C:\VundoFix Backups folder and C:\vundofix.txt log that was created.
    6. If we had your run FixWareOut, you can delete the Fixwareout.exe file and the C:\fixwareout folder.
    7. If we had you run Avenger, you can delete all files related to Avenger now.
    8. If we had you download any registry patches like fixme.reg or fixWLK.reg (or any others), you can delete these files now.
    9. You can delete the ShowNew.Zip and GetRunkey.Zip files and the files that you extracted from the ZIP files. You can also delete the C:\newfiles.txt and C:\runkeys.txt logs that were created
    10. If you are running Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below:
      • go back to step 8 of the READ & RUN ME to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points.
      • Then reboot and Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.
    11. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:

FYI - I found my problem. I was running Zone Alarm firewall and vsmon.exe was eating up my cpu spiking to like 99% anytime I clicked on something. Do you have a suggestion for a good firewall I can download?

I gave you a list of things to do in message # 10. You should have followed those instructions and read the link given in step 11. ;)

I know I did those things, I was just more so looking for your opinion which is the best. I downloaded Comodo and so far I like it. I also got it's companion program BOFix and that seems to be doing good too. Thanks again for your help.

Yes Comodo's firewall and BOClean are good choices and the firewall is much less resource hungry than ZoneAlarm.

Make sure you also install Spyware Blaster which does not use any system resources.
