    Attached is my log.

    I'm getting some strange pop-ups
I can't visit any site that requires a password like email
Mediaplayer bombs, and other strange behavior.

Ran steps 1-5 in the opening sticky. Couldn't run any online scanners????? Please help.

    Thanks for the reply.

Sorry I wasn't more specific...I did everything I could in Read & Run Me First...Ad-AwareSE found 208 objects including Coolweb, Better Internet, Searchweb, ICQ, and some trojan among other known objects I can't remember...Spybot found a bunch of stuff...and Microsoft Anti-Spy found 44 instances of different adware...The online scans wouldn't run, because of the infection. One of the symptoms is that certain pages won't load including anything with a password. I tried Kaspersky, and Bitdefender, but couldn't get either to run even in SafeMode.

I can't give more details because it's not my box, and the only scan log I have with me is the HJT log attached. If you need more info, please let me know, and I'll try to get it. Thanks again.

Thanks for all the help D3...Did all the steps. Pop-ups are gone. HJT looks clean to my untrained eye. Strange behavior on IE still exists. For example, I'm unable to attach the HJT log to this reply because the "manage attachments" button is missing. Also, I can't login to anything like Yahoo! mail, or Comcast.net, or even hotmail. Media Player is "busted" also.

It seems clean, but there appears to be some damage that I haven't been able to repair. I tried restoring all defaults in IE, and messing with the connection settings, but it still doesn't like any secured sites. Any ideas????

My friend got impatient and gave up. We used the system restore disc to wipe the hard drive clean. It's a pain, but it was effective. Now he'll have to fix all his settings and install all his software again.

    Thanks again for your help.
