HJT not creating a log file?

Guys,

Terrible days with trojans lots and lots of trojan dialer.bzb, *pakes.u, *generic.wue, *downloader.generic2.jvp,
etc. some extensions will change. I have removed them all time after time with the following:
SpyBot S&D, AdAware, AVG, Trend Micro house call, & A2.
Anyways, I try to use HJT to create a log and once the scan is finished I click save log and nothing happens.
No question of where to save the file, search entire disk for any hijackthis file nothing.
Yes when downloaded I extract to it's own folder.
Sad to say brand new upgraded PC, everything fresh... searching for a driver somewhere for a pci device and one of the downloads came in like cancer, here we are.

 

Run HijackThis and click 'Do a system scan and save a logfile'

Once the scan is completed HJT will open notepad and display the log, you can then select File --> Save As from notepad and save the log file to a location where you can retrieve it.

I have not spoke to Merijn about the way HJT does this but its either one of 2 ways. It either runs notepad specifically with a parameter to open a file or the logfile is saved and then opened with the default program for .log files.

Does notepad work on your computer. Goto 'Start' --> 'Run' and type in notepad and press enter. Let me know if notepad opens.

Goto 'Tools' --> 'Folder Options' in Windows Explorer and select the 'File Types' tab, Scroll down until you find LOG and tell me what the 'Opens with' part says.
