HL2.exe...help

i juss got a new pc on windows vista
juss recently got over some RAM trouble
i got counter strike : source
singed up to the steam platform thingy
downloaded all the updates and so on
clicked on launch game
and every time it says
HL2.exe has stopped working....windows is searching for the problem..blah blah
and then juss says something about it closing and it will inform me if the problem is located or something like that

any one know how to fix this?
i think HL2.exe is downloaded and placed in the directory file when you try to launch the game
but i don't know why it doesnt work

 

For me, it took 2 attempts. The first one failed, however, after uninstalling HL2 and repeating the process, it worked! By the end of it there was Steam coming out of my ears as I spent about 10 hours getting it to work via my 2k bytes per second dial-up. After, I'd gone through the process, the second time, I realised that I hadn't waited for it to finish. Apparently, updates are forced on you at the same time as the validation and download of the HL2.exe file. Because I cut it off too soon my first install was incomplete and even though I had the HL2.exe file, it couldn't run.

 

When you installed, was the install program set to "Run as administrator"? Sometimes a proggy won't work for me unless I Set it to that.

yup
tried both methods at the same time
set installer to admin
left it as long as possible
set steam to admin
and it worked fine
