hl2 lag

    my half life 2 lags on my computer... I have an nvidia overclocked geforce 6600 gt, running on 3.0 ghz dual processor and 1 gig of memory. the sound lags in the same spots everytime, it's not so much the video as the sound I was wondering how I could fix it?

    Last I knew this was a glitch everyone experienced. HL2 basically is scripted and when these scripts load in spots, it causes choppiness. Obviously you can check all your drivers, but I doubt its fixable. The 6600, I hate to do this to you, is already a slightly dated card (what 6 months will do) with faster cards, clocks speeds, PCI slots, SLI, etc, but I doubt it will help all the same. Of course now ATI is going to slap double chips on a board (you think people would have thought about this before sellling us these huge old cards) so it could get crazy in the video card scene the next year.

    whew yah I tried everything it still lagged same exact spots, but it is only the demo... anyways I know it's a dated card, but this is a good start actually I'm told it should run all the newer games perfect (doom 3, hl2, bf2.) not only by comp USA but also this site. BUt thanks so much I guess it happens on everyones comp lots of help :D .

    the full HL2 game released a "fix" that was caused by the sound drivers choking up and what not...

    tell me something do you have onboard sound? because that might also cause this problem

    (because my pc use to lag on bf1942 but when i put a sound card in and stop using on-board sound the lag stoped)

    yup onboard soundcard jeez, I've been worrying about this so much, and you guys just pointed out the problems... thanx so much, but If I did look into a sound card what would you suggest?

    I'm using a really simple cheap soundcard and the card in my sig.
    It runs half life 2 absolutely fine, with the latest drivers from the ati website.

    After seeing a few threads concering HL2, I fianally got to around to reloading mine yesterday (since lost my HDD), I also have a VIAO (3 y/o old) but with a low end 5200. Never had any lag, but I have noticed that it runs & loads faster than it did before (last played around March).

    In anygame I play, I do have to adjust the sound options to the low end. For some reason VAIO's always want to run on the highest quailtiy. I sure does impact the game.

    sb aud 2 value, best bang for the buck. if you wait till the end of the month (when X-fi gets released) then you can probably score a better deal.
