I noticed something recently. I usually don't shut down the computer from the case unless I have a frozen computer or I have a dire emergency that requires me to quickly shut down (incoming thunder storm) and usually I am good at keeping track of the weather so I know beforehand. Again I very rarely will shut down from the case.

However I noticed that when I down hold the power button down it will shut off like it is supposed to, but then when I let go of the button it causes the system to restart. I checked windows and it is set to shut off and I checked BIOS and there is no power settings to be changed. So what else should I look at?

EDIT: Also I forgot to mention if I use the shut down button on Windows Start Menu this problem does not occur.

    Hi,

Sounds like you may just have a defective Power Button Switch. What happens if you just tap the button. Should shut down same as Start Menu. If you are confident enough pull the power sw lead from the Mother board and use a small screwdriver to make contact. If it shuts down normally then the switch is probably bad and bounceing.

    Good Luck, Jim
