Who has 'em? I was just noticing the holiday programming on the 25 Days of Christmas thing and it reminded me so much of being a kid, and all the television specials, and I just got really into the christmas mood! Tonight the old Dr. Seuss specials are on, which I remember, and wow, it takes me back. :) Anyone else get into the TV specials around the holidays?

I love em too!! My husband says that I never grew up when it comes to the Christmas holidays!! Christmas shows should bring a tear to your eye or fill you with good cheer and just make you feel young and giddy!! Who wants to grow up around Christmas time....certainly not me:-D

    Happy Holidays!!

Sadly in UK while there are a few TV specials that are new for this season, majority of TV is repeats, plus I think our TV chiefs and planners are having a laugh with us as every year we have the classic The Great Escape on (love the film to bits but not every year, not noticed the other staple UK TV classics on Sound of Music and Wizard of OZ on this year), so its not UK TV Christmas without the Great Escape and others :) ;)

Looked at the schedule earlier and majority of films have been on reciently!! Only thing thats jumping out for me is the new christmas Dr Who episode and the Royal Institutions Christmas Lectures.

I own all the claymation specials on VHS...gotta get them converted or buy new ones, I guess. Rudolph, Frosty, Santa (the one where he starts as a regular guy), the Grinch, and one more I can't think of offhand.

Of course, my own personal holiday tradition the last few years has been to be working the Nutcracker for our professional ballet company instead of celebrating with my family, which is what I'm doing this weekend while they have a party at my house. Such is life.

Well, not to offend anyone however, I can't stand watching most of those types of shows as it's not a tradition that I grew up with, seeing as we had no TV or radio until I was 10 or so. Our tradition was fasting on Christmas eve day and having a symbolic meal of sardines and a milk, unleavend dumpling with poppy seed soup. We then went to midnight mass.

I don't follow this anymore but it does bring back warm memories as Christmas Day was pigout time!:-D:yum

We always watched the traditional shows. My fave was always Rudolph. I still like watching if I'm switching channels and it's on. My kids have seen them all too.

Our tradition though is somewhat strange (or so I've been told LOL). When we were growing up, we had to sit on top of the stairs on Christmas morning and eat grapefruit. We weren't allowed to come down until we did. And we didn't get our grapefruit until we were all up (I have 2 sisters and a brother). I used to torture them when I was in highschool (yes, i was still doing this in Highschool :cry) and not get up. I was the oldest. Apparantly my dad had to sit and eat grapefruit on top of the steps when he was a kid.

I am now torturing my kids, as are my brother and my sister with theirs. :-D

Hahaha @ grapefruit! :-D Good lesson really, eat the vile stuff and suffer before you get something! Nothing's for free!

We still have our Christmas eve party, where all our kids and grandchildren come, the neighbors, and friends. Its always been the party of the year for all of us, and it gets more crowded. Its always a blast. Christmas day is quiet at least in the mornings, no more kids getting up at 4 and all hyped up. Now, my wife and I get up, late, have a quiet breakfast, and then at noon go over to which ever of our kids is hosting the family christmas. They all take turns.

My roommate had never seen any christmas specials before this year, and at first she was like "Um, what is the point?" But then she actually watched some of them with me last night and really got into it. :-D Tonight is the Santa Clause 2, I love Tim Allen.
