I have WIN XP. 128MB RAM. Celeron. My home page keeps defaulting to "blank" and when going on line takes me to "http://www.necessaryupdates.com/". I have tried resetting home page and clicking Apply OK. and run AVG, A 2 and Ad Aware. Also cleared cookies and temp internet files. (Checked updates on AVG, A2 and Ad Aware), yet problem persists. Any sggestions please?

I d/l and checked them all:
    CWShredder v2.19.0.1099= d/l from Author's Site at MG's
    CWShredder v2.19.0.1099= d/l from Major Geeks TX-|USA|

The links on Majorgeeks are always (as much as possible) kept up to date with current releases of programs. And guidelines for these forums are to use Majorgeeks links (which are approved by all authors). These forums only exist by the good will of the owners and they loose money supporting them. The least everyone can do is to link to Majorgeeks download links to help support the owners and these forums. Links to software authors sites are also on the download pages so there is no reason to link elsewhere. In the future please use links to Majorgeeks download pages unless the program being referenced is not carried here.

The link I gave on Majorgeeks is an authorized copy of this procedure with additional details for people using Majorgeek's Malware Forums. It is what should be used.

    Hi,
Apparently there is some confusion. You said "Thank you for your comment/suggestion" and that is where we got confused. It is the website policy. So, it is NOT a comment or suggestion, but a demand. We do not link out when it is available from here. People trust us and feel better knowing they are in one spot. Granted, your linking to trustworthy places, but you always need to put yourself in the shoes of someone who is not computer savvy. Finding one website to get help is hard enough for them. Many come here on a referral from a friend or their ISP. Clicking around to other websites makes them nervous. If you can not understand this basic premise, you probably should not be helping people. You ALWAYS have to put yourself in their shoes. Your assuming people who need help and might be frustrated or confused, somehow follow your way of downloading files.

Please do not do it again or we will have to ban your account. Thanks for your time.

Since you have posted 25,224 times in here I can respect your "opinion" on this matter. And I can really appreciate [and totally agree with] your comment about forums only existing "by the good will of the owners," and I can definitely appreciate MajorGeeks efforts.

However, I certainly do not concur in your belief that every single time I post a suggestion to another forum members problem; I should feel compelled to FIRST make absolutely certain whether or not that the program or a possible "fix" is listed somewhere here on the MajorGeeks site - prior to listing the home page of the authors’ sites [particularly if I am already aware the actual developers home page].

As for your comment that "The least everyone can do is to link to MajorGeeks download links to help support the owners and these forums." Sorry, but I cannot see how anyone "loses" money, support [or anything else, for that matter] by my referral to the actual website where the programs' developer is based or possible solutions to forum members' problems - might be located. What difference does it make where they click? As long as the problem is addressed and solved that's what really matters IMO.

I believe my post clearly explains why I post links to the authors' home pages when offering and/or making program suggestions to problems others are having - it's simply the best way to go - in my view. What say you post your way and I post my way and we just leave it at that. :)

Ok, this has already been made quite clear by one of the owners. This is a policy, and NOT negotiable. There is nothing else to discuss. It is very important that you understand and heed Major Attitude's post.

Your quite right; I hadn't considered that leaving this sight would make people nervous - especially new people. In the future I'll post accordingly. Thanks for your post.

Thank you. Glad to have you aboard to help people out. I was reminded yesterday on a radio show by a woman caller who was afraid to go anywhere with her computer how scared people are. We do get referrals from Earthlink, AOL and Microsoft tech support to name a few, so we try to help them from a newbies perspective. Hope you stick around for a while. You might want to check the spyware forum sticky threads, we have a lot of suggested programs and tutorials there. We had a spyware tutorial removal before anyone even thought about it and it works well.

Sorry about all of the fuss, really. I've posted in many forums; but few boast the excellent "extra" pages that you have such as "FAQ" and the malware FAQ pages, etc. so I'm used to "linking out' because such carefully listed help was unavailable in many of the other forums.

And I want to apologize to "chaslang" for overreacting. It hit me like a brick when I read your post Major. I always thought the "linking to trustworthy places" [the author's homepage] was the way to go, but you're absolutely right - I see a lot of new folks and I can certainly remember what a confusing ride it was like - to have to jump from site-to-site when I had a problem and looked for help with it.

Good Lord chaslang had 25,224 posts here; I definitely should have thought more carefully before chucking a pulpit the Anti-Spyware-Man's way. I'll definitely think twice before doing that again. <g>

No problem! We are always happy to have people come here and offer good help and suggestions. We just have certain policies (like every website) that we prefer to have followed. ;)

Thanks for your quick response chaslang!

I've spent a little more time reviewing the pages on this site, HELP, FAQ, etc. and did not realize the extent of it - or comprehend the "newbie" factor that Major posted to me regarding making it more comfortable/easier for folks to find the answers right here at this site. "We learn something new every DATA!"

Thanks again chaslang! Keep up the good work! ;)
