I would like to connect from my home to my office network. Laptop runs on XP Home. Office runs on XP Pro. Both have DSL (different companies) with a linksys wireless router at home and a linksys firewall router at the office. Office has three workstations and a Windows XP Pro server that is only used for data storage and sharing.

I have done some research, but have not been able to find the best way to do this so it connects consistently, every time. Remote assistance seems to work (sort of), but not really.

Any suggestions or help would be greatly appreciated.

Remote assistance is probably overkill.. what you want to do is use the RDP client that is installed on XP uner accessories/communications called Remote Desktop. There is some network configuration that you'll need to make for this to work properly and on the novice side of it, it will only work for one machine unless you feel like getting dirty in the registry of the other machines.

    1. You will need to configure your router to start it's DHCP range of IP addresses to something like 192.168.1.100 as the first starting DCHP address.
    2. Set a static IP address on the machine that you desire to login
    3. go back to your router and setup port forwarding for port 3389 to point to the IP address that you just assigned to the pc in step 2.
    4. Get your WAN IP address as you will need this to connect to the router from your home pc.
