    Hi

My elderly father-in-law has been having some problems with his laptop including his homepage being hijacked by Inbox.com. I am also worried about other problems he may have suffered through his inexperience.

There is also something called 24x7 help running which he says he knows nothing about, but every window opened has a small image in the top right corner of a woman wearing a headset. is that malware?? Sorry if I am wasting time if he has no infections but could do with some expert advice!

    Thanks

    Martyn

    Welcome to Major Geeks!

Someone installed it around 7/2/2012. Not really malware. There is not real malware in the logs. Just questionable choice of things being installed.

What about Skype and the EasyBits parental controls software? Do you want this installed. Most people don't know they are installing Easybits and you probably got 24x7 with it too. GameXN GO came with Skype too. You may want to consider whether any of this is wanted/needed.

If you don't want the 24x7 Help software, goto Add Remove Programs and uninstall it and then reboot. Check to see if it actually uninstalled.

Just wanted to say thanks for looking at the logs and for your advice. 24x7 deleted and I'll look at the others once I know what he is using.

    You're welcome.

Sine you are not having malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. We recommend you keep SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware. Unless you purchase them, they provide no protection. They do not use any significant amount of resources ( except a little disk space ) until you run a scan.
    2. Go back to step 6 oof the READ ME and renable your Disk Emulation software with Defogger if you had disabled it.
    3. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
    4. If we had you download any registry patches like fixme.reg or fixWLK.reg (or any others), you can delete these files now.
    5. If running Vista or Win 7, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    6. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis.
    7. Goto the C:\MGtools folder and find the MGclean.bat file. Double click on this file to run this cleanup program that will remove files and folders
related to MGtools and some other items from our cleaning procedures.
    8. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:
