Norton, Adaware, Spybot, Trend Micro Anti Spyware can't seem to get rid of this hijacker. Your help would be greatly appreciated.

I followed the Read & Run Me First thread and have the required logs attached. I could not get Panda to run on my pc for some reason, but I have attached all the other logs.

This has been one frustrating problem and I'm hoping you can help. Thanks

    Welcome to Majorgeeks!

Did you put all those items in your Hosts file? Our normal procedures will be to removed them!

If you did not put those line into your Hosts file, download HOSTER and then follow the below steps.
    • Unzip Hoster to a convenient folder such as C:\Hoster
    • Run Hoster.exe, click Restore Original Hosts and then click OK.
    • Click the X to exit the program
Is your copy or TrendMicroAntispyware a paid version or a free trial version?

    Now Uninstall the below software:
    J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 1
    J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 4
Java 2 Runtime Environment Standard Edition v1.3.1
Java 2 Runtime Environment Standard Edition v1.3.1_02
Java 2 Runtime Environment, SE v1.4.2_03
Shopper Reports by Spam Blocker Utility
    Spam Blocker Utility
    Viewpoint Media Player

Now install the current version of Sun Java from: Sun Java Runtime Environment

I'm going to post two sets of instructions below. Each will be enclosed in separate Quote boxes. Make sure to complete the first one 100% before moving on to the second one.

    Now attach new logs from:
    • GetRunKey
    • ShowNew
    • HJT
    How are things working now?

Homepage is no longer being hijacked to eprotectpage.com. Thanks! I'll attach the two rapport reports. First one is from the scan and rapport 2 is after the clean step. Also, runkey, shownew and HJT reports as requested.

I appreciate the help and let me know if I missed anything. It will take two posts to get all the attachments so please be patient. Thanks!

Why did you start using MSconfig to control startups??? In your first log you had it set properly! Now you are in selective startup mode. You MUST remain in Normal Startup mode while we work on your PC. I will have you address this down below after we fix a few things!

Make sure viewing of hidden files is enabled (per the tutorial).
Run HijackThis and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:
    O2 - BHO: (no name) - {8DA5457F-A8AA-4CCF-A842-70E6FD274094} - C:\PROGRA~1\COMMON~1\WinTools\WToolsT.dll (file missing)
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [UserFaultCheck] %systemroot%\system32\dumprep 0 -u
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [WinTools] C:\PROGRA~1\COMMON~1\WinTools\WToolsA.exe

    After clicking Fix, exit HJT.

Now run MSconfig and select Normal Startup!

    Now reboot in normal mode
Now Copy the bold text below to notepad. Save it as fixWLK.reg to your desktop. Be sure the "Save as" type is set to "all files" Once you have saved it double click it and allow it to merge with the registry.
Also delete all files in the below folders except ones from the current date (Windows will not let you delete the files from the current day).
    C:\Program Files\Common Files\WinTools
    C:\Program Files\Hotbar

Now attach the below new logs and tell me how the above steps went.

    1. GetRunKey
    2. ShowNew
    3. HJT
Make sure you tell me how things are working now!

Reminder Note: Once we have determined you are malware free you will need to disable System Restore, reboot, and re-enable system restore per step 1 of the READ & RUN ME. This only applies to if using WinXP or WinMe.

Logs attached. Did selective startup to try to speed up the rebooting process since it was taking so long and I was doing so many. I didn't know it mattered. Learn something every day.

PC is running better and homepage not hijacked. Fixed things as instructed. I could not find the files on my c drive as listed. Were they deleted by HJT ro something else? Folders are set to dispay all so that shouldn't be the problem. Let me know if I"m making a dumb mistake.

    Thanks, Phil

It is mentioned at least twice in the READ ME! The first time is in the very first step (step 0).

Norton Internet Security and BigFix are two of your biggest problems slowing your PC down.

Please uninstall Windows Defender! It may be getting in the way of removing some malware items. Also you don't need it if your Trend Micro AntiSpyware application is a paid program!

Delete the below two folders since the programs are no longer installed.
    C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Avg7
    C:\Program Files\NoAdware4

Make sure viewing of hidden files is enabled (per the tutorial).

Run HijackThis and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:
    F3 - REG:win.ini: load=???
    ?
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [TkBellExe] "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Real\Update_OB\realsched.exe" -osboot
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Spam Blocker for Outlook Express] C:\PROGRA~1\Hotbar\bin\451~1.0\SBInst.exe
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [QuickTime Task] "C:\Program Files\QuickTime\qttask.exe" -atboottime

    After clicking Fix, exit HJT.

    Now reboot in normal mode

Also delete all files in the below folder except ones from the current date (Windows will not let you delete the files from the current day).
    C:\Documents and Settings\Phil Stilwell\Local Settings\Temp

Now attach the below new logs and tell me how the above steps went.

    1. GetRunKey
    2. HJT

Make sure you tell me how things are working now!

All seems to be working fine now. The MicroTrend is the freeware version download. Uninstalled Defender and performed fix with HJT as instructed.

Both new logs attached. Was able to delete files/folders you wanted. All seems fine now. Thanks and let me know if I missed anything please.

Your logs are clean. If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. If we used Pocket Killbox during your cleanup, do the below
      • Run Pocket Killbox and select File, Cleanup, Delete All Backups
    2. If we used ComboFix you can delete the ComboFix.exe file and associated C:\combofix.txt log that was created.
    3. If we used VundoFix, you can delete the VundoFix.exe file and the C:\VundoFix Backups folder and C:\vundofix.txt log that was created.
    4. If we had your run FixWareOut, you can delete the Fixwareout.exe file and the C:\fixwareout folder.
    5. If we had you download any registry patches like fixme.reg or fixWLK.reg (or any others), you can delete these files now.
    6. You can delete the ShowNew.Zip and GetRunkey.Zip files and the files that you extracted from the ZIP files. You can also delete the C:\newfiles.txt and C:\runkeys.txt logs that were created
    7. If you are running Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below:
      • go back to step 8 of the READ & RUN ME to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points.
      • Then reboot and Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.
    8. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:
