Hooking up wireless to an old computer

Hi. I'm new to this -- forums and working on my computer. I inherited a compaq 5102. It has 128mb memory and 40 gb hard drive. It was previously on dial up. I bought a wireless adapter. The computer will not pick up the signal from my router. What do I need to do?
