Just a quick post to say I hope any MGs in the path of destruction that Hurricane Katrina has left are ok. I just got my power back today and I live 4 hours from the coast. (kinda surprised there wasn't already a thread on this actually)

For those not following it closely, this was the most powerful storm to hit the US in more than 30 years. The destruction is immeasurable in a lot of Mississippi and Louisiana. With the water still rising in New Orleans, the toll from this storm may not be fully known for weeks to come.

That's kind of you to post. I'm up north out of the way, but the stories
are shocking. My friend has spent some time down there and told me something
that is sort of gross. For some reason they bury the dead (some of them anyway) in New Orleans above ground.
Well you know that the levy has been breeched, and flooding is 20 feet deep,
my friend thinks there will be bodies literally becoming unburied.

New Orleans is below sea level. If they tried to bury underground rather than in crypts aboveground, they'd be pusing caskets down into water. It's not "some", it's "every single person" buried in NO.

What doesn't make any sense to me is...if they can't bury anybody underground...then how do they dig for foundations for buildings etc.???

Just wanted to pass on some information for those who might be affected by this. The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children is working to reunite kids with their parents as well as families and friends. Please feel free to pass this information along.

They have set up a hotline for gathering information, names, etc about potentially missing folks, and have volunteers going to shelters with digital cameras and cell phones trying to help reunite people. Their hotline number is 1-888-544-5475.

Original link is gone again. Could not find it just now.
We get cyclones, but, hopefully, never ever anything like Katrina.
The images are terrible. The effects will be felt on everyone for many years.
The pain in remembering 911 is slowly fading, if the numbers attending memorials at the sites are any indication, 4 years later.
We hope all the Katrina survivors are reunited with their loved ones asap, and are able to rebuild their lives. Baz
