Hi. After holding out for a long time I finally bought 2 Intel Solid state drives. I would like to dedicate one exclusively to Windows 7 system files. I want to move Internet explorer, Ms Mail and anything that makes a lot of writes to a Velocimaxtor. The second drive will contain only my only game, Lord of the Rings Online.
Now the questions: what can I move to the Velociraptor to minimize writes to the SSD's? How can I do it?
I know it's best to install Windows with only the system drive hooked up and then fix things after it's all updated and working right. Beyond that it gets a little fuzzy and I really need a bit of hand holding to finish the install.
The system should end up with Windows on the SSD C drive, The game only on the SSD D drive and all the other stuff (email, swap file, browser, etc) should be on the Velociraptor hard drive.
Will it work and how do I go about it?

This is similar to the setup I have and is really is a lot simpler than you think.

Install windows on your SSD C:,Install your game on your other SSD,for all other programs install them on the velociraptor.

In most of the programs you use you will have to manually set where they save files as its usually in my documents or in their program directory 'saved games for example.' If you take I.E as an example open IE,tools,internet options,general,under browsing history click settings then move the default location to the velociraptor.

For the page file Go to control panel,system,advanced system settings,performance/settings,advanced,under virtual memory click change then choose the default location as your raptor drive.

Also you need to move the recycle bin this is the easiest just right click it,properties then choose your velociraptor.

Other things like my pictures you just don't use,save your pictures and downloads on your VR drive at the time of downloading.

You may want to try changing the default user profile location,I haven't bothered with this but here is a guide anyway.

If you decide to do it this way you don't need to move my documents,this will move everything in the user folder to the chosen location,download,my pictures,the desktop,my video's ect. ect.

 

Thanks Rikky. This cleared it up. I kinda thought it went that way but wasn't sure. Sooooo......here goes nothing. If you're interested I'll let you know how it goes.
