Hover buttons withOUT Javascript?

I want to make hover buttons (with images) so that if I mouse-over a linked image, it will change to another image.

I've used some different Java applet things but they seem to have trouble with Firefox.

Is there a way to do this with plain HTML or something else?

 

Why would use a Java applet for hover buttons?

Just use Javascript, Firefox should be able to handle it just fine. Plain HTML will not swap out images, as plain HTML has no concept of onMouseOver and onMouseOut, except as a helper for Javascript.

 

I did the "Hover Button" function in FrontPage 2003. It seems to work half-assed. I believe it is Javascript, but during the page load it says "Loading Java applet..." in the status bar down on the bottom of Firefox above the task bar and sometimes it just sits there, sometimes it works, and sometimes it shows the off buttons but not the on ones. It is my experience that FrontPage's built-in stuff usually sucks, but I can't find another way to do it.

 

I have never used FrontPage, but from what I hear, you are right -- it mostly sucks.

This is using a Java applet which isn't the same as JavaScript. JavaScript is a scripting language that you embed in your HTML page and loads much faster than applets in most cases.
