    Hey, You're Old

Has anyone seen those small hardcover books filled with little sayings and pictures of animals? They're little "pick me up" books, designed to make you feel better on a bad day...or in this case, a "blue day".

One is called the "Blue Day Book". It's great to give as a little gift and my husband and I have given away a few for people's 40th birthdays. But you can't give it away without a POEM...

Here's one of the ones we've sent with the book...
    HEY, YOU’RE OLD!
or ODE TO “THE BLUE DAY BOOK”

    by Pam & Jeff Miller
    © 9/6/03

Hey, you’re old, yeah, we’re talking to you!
Your years no longer number a few
Forty, yes forty – oh my – how they grew
Numbers so mighty, let’s just say, a whole slew.

When you’re feeling frail, feeble, and blue
And your eyes no longer see the farthest view
When your brain doesn’t even have a clue
Open this book we bought for you.

You do not need to cry boo-hoo
    Though you’re over-the-hill, it’s quite true.
When you can no longer do the “Dew”
Open this book we bought for you.

It is great that your beautiful kids number two
But pity -- you’re as stiff as a geriatric gnu.
When you’re caught falling asleep in the pew
Open this book we bought for you.

When you’re strapped in a chair gumming stew
‘Cause you no longer have teeth with which to chew,
When you look at your wife and ask, “Who?”
Open this book we bought for you.

    Re: Hey, You're Old

Oh man, is my poem that bad that no one's wanted to comment?

(Actually, I should have left the thread alone longer, maybe, and not stirred up any "comments" if I knew what was good for me, I bet) ;)

very well then, I'll post an old one, all my new stuff are songs :)

    For you, my Dear

Know that I think of you
    You’re still special
    Kept close to my heart

    When I die
    I know you’ll be there
    Waiting for me
    On the Other side

I can feel your presence near
Surrounding me, following my every step
    Giving me strength
    Keeping me from dying young

You’ve always been good to me
    And I’ll never forget you
The memory I hold of you
    Shall never fade

    Goodbye, my Dear
    I wish you luck
    Where ever you go
I’ll hold you close to my heart

    Your poem

It's not "wrong" -- just "different"
(different is different, not better or worse :) )
Anyway - people obviously found it there and read it too.
    You have talent.

This is based on a Bible verse - so if you don't like that kind of thing...please don't read it.

There, now for those of you who are still reading, I was going through a really sad and difficult time in life that lasted for many months. Then I read this verse in the book of Psalms. The words "broken" and "crushed" struck me because that's how I felt inside-- maybe some of you have felt that way.

So I sat down and wrote this out and really, haven't edited it except for the format -- I like tabs and spacing to "show" how a poem would be "said" or "felt" (if that makes any sense).
    ---------------------------------------------------------------

    "Broken and Crushed", by Pam

Psalm 34:18 "The Lord is close to the brokenhearted
and saves those who are crushed in spirit."

(I can't get it to "look right" so I'm attaching it)

Hmmm...I know how you feel, Pegg (really).

Not just for months, but many years. Every time the end of the desert is in sight, another appears. Every hill that's climbed, a mountain ensues. Every pit that is filled, a crevice follows. Every wound that is healed is torn apart worse than before. :(

But the spirit grows stronger, and even though I may falter, the Lord does not. I do what I know is right. Not for nobility's sake, but because it is better to have done these things than to have not. And because the common good will always prevail over the forces of destruction and despair.

(Errmm...That wasn't supposed to be 'poetic', b.t.w.:- Just how things have been for the past nine years or so) - (Just my 2 Yen worth. )

Okay I'll go back under my rock now!

Dear, dear Phantom...I fear thou art a "meloncholic" like me. Please do not say you will "go back under a rock" and also know that whatever the circumstances REAL JOY can be embraced.

I read where you said you're a "Christian" and I know that means different things to different people. But joy can be found IN GOD (not in people, things, places or events).

Security and significance -- what the world strives for -- can only be fulfilled in the One who made our body, mind and soul.

    Castles built in space

    Stellar clouds protects my face

    Hope for the soul

    Attracted by a black hole

    Seductively sucked in

    By bright stars that spin

    Avoiding pain

    Abstract again

    Treasuring my gift

Pivoting wounds on a red shift

    Echoes are fading fast

    Today is already the past

    Patsy sing my song

    Gone

Very interesting (and I mean that in a positive way -- not in a "don't know what to say so I'll use the word "interesting")

Someone can think of this in so many different - yet similar -- ways. Does that make sense? Hmmmm, makes you think, which is a sign of "good poetry". My poems are not abstract - pretty obvious -- more like feelings and ideas rather than thoughts.

    Thanks for sharing.

Don't know about 'good' or 'bad' poetry. I just write what I feel. Kind of shuts off the thinking, and helps me with this whole life situation thing.:)

I wrote this for my wife...

    I’ll Never Walk Lonely

    Beautiful smile
    Beautiful friend
    A love that grows
    And knows no end
    We learned together
    We know true love
    And there is happiness
    Blessed from up above
    You’re here tonight
    This feels so right
    I’ll never walk lonely

    The days go by
    And did for years
    Love remains strong
    Through good times and tears
    You carried me
    I carried you
I can’t believe that your time here is through
    Lost and broken
    These words are spoken
    I’ll never walk lonely

    I’ll never walk lonely
    The love we shared
    Our love went
    Where no one else dared
    Your love surrounds me
    Till it finally drowns me
    I’m glad you’re there

    And in the morning
    The sun will rise
I want to look and see
The love there in your eyes
    To feel you there
    You’re soft embrace
    I touch your pillow
    Where you lay
    Your body I trace
    Back to the start
    I’ll take my heart
    I’ll never walk lonely

Marriage is a walk...one step at a time...one decision at a time (not always feelings, but DECISIONS to do the right thing)

    Very beautiful.

    @HUDIK -- I knew I shouldn't have used "good" (as in vs. "bad") poetry -- I meant "meaningful"... :)
