How can I boot from the D drive?

I used Casper XP to clone my operating system and software to another drive so I could have a back-up. The partition on this drive is the "D" drive. My bios is set to boot to the C drive. How do I get around this?

What I did was I used Casper XP to take a identical image of my C. drive which was in my computer at the time and transfer it to a separate hard drive which had to be identified by a different letter of the alphabet, in this case the D. drive. This created a bootable, exact copy of my C. drive, but with a different letter. I then disconnected both the power and the IDE channel to the C. drive and connected the black connector into the back of the D. drive. My computer would not recognize this drive as the boot drive. When I went into the bios it indicated that the sequence went from the CD-ROM to the C. drive. So the way I look at it I probably have two choices. One is to go into the bios (and I try to find this but I could not) and change the boot parameters so that it will go to a D. drive.

It is also possible that I can take this hard drive (the second one) reformat and repartition it. The question is will the partition part of windows XP disk manager allow me to name that partition as a C. drive, because my original hard drive is named that?

Thanks in advance for your help.

As can see from the accompanying diagram I originally had disk 0 with two partitions C. and E. I also had disk 1 with partitions D. and H. I copied the Windows operating system and the programs from volume C on disk 0 to volume D. on disc 1. I've then disconnected the black IDE plug from the back of disk 0 and plugged it into the back of disk 1 hoping the computer would boot up. It did not.

Whatever drive has your OS will always be named C drive windows renames them everytime you startup,if you left disk 0 hooked up windows would rename all the partitions to higher letters other than c,then if you decide to use the original windows install on your original drive it would be renamed back to C drive

I cant really offer more advice without knowing what your motherboard is,on my msi it has a boot menu which isnt in the bios instead of pressing Del when windows is loading you hit F11,the motherboard then searches for all the available drives to boot from

Two options to look for in bios are 'boot other device' this will search for any MBR's connected to the computer and also set all boot options to auto to let the motherboard find a bootable device :)
