Call your Internet service provider and upgrade your service. The problem is not likely your router, but your service plan.

I do understand. I am afraid it is you who is not understanding. My answer remains the same. Your download and upload speeds are determined by the service provided by your ISP and that is based on the plan you pay for.

Now if you check page 42 of your router manual, you will see you can set the prioritization but it should, by default, already be set for optimized performance.

You want to slow your connection down locally? You might be able to run an app locally on that pc, but you can't affect that on a router level. Thats all based on limits set in the isp equipment, not your router.

Yup A simple download manager should suffice,if you limit your router speed you'll just make everything run slower.

Depending on what program your downloading your files in you can manually set up/down speed with this program, if your using a P2P program to download torrents your much better off setting the max transfer speed inside there.

Take it from a gamer though, you don't want to download anything while gaming no matter how fast your connection, especially if the game in question is ping\lag critical such as a fast FPS.

this is for playing online for xbox 360,a slower upload speed will help in the head to head lag comp.

The point is you still are not going to be able to increase speeds beyond what your service agreement allows. And the router, by default, will be set to allow maximum throughput.

It should also be noted that programs like NetBalancer suggested above work at the client level (the computer) and not the router. If you have other devices on your network (other computers, network connected Blu-ray players or TVs), those devices will still be uploading and downloading data through the router, regardless what NetBalancer on one PC is set to.

He is wanting to slow his connection speed in order to take advantage of lag compensation on his XBox 360.

Are you not happy with the answers you've been given Pongo?

If not could you elaborate a little why, do you not want to limit a single computer with software as I posted? If you gave use a better description of your setup Pongo such as how many computers are on the network and exactly what you want to slow down there would be less confusion.

The term lag compensation is also a little confusing as it refers to a gaming technique used in most online games where the gamer guesses where the other players are based on the amount of lag or latency measured in milliseconds.

You can use this technique whatever your latency is.

    For example-

Do you want to limit the speed of ALL other computers connecting through your router apart from your Xbox to reduce latency? I don't know of way to do this if it isn't written into the router software/firmware, the only other way I can think to do this would be to turn a computer into a home network server then limit the traffic via software.

Do you want to limit the speed of the entire network to decrease latency? This won't affect latency that much if your network isn't saturated, it may improve gaming performance though especially if you have a poor router.

Are you talking about upload saturation where your download becomes limited due to the upload speed? Again this isn't really a major problem unless you have lot's of users or your own computer uploading lots of data such as through torrents, a single game won't upload saturate your network.

Three or four full sentences would go a long way:p
