How can i figure out what kind of onboard video this pc has

hi folks. I've just reinstalled windows xp on a broken pc at a place i volunteer in. it's stuck in low resolution which i know it wasn't previously. the cause quite obviously is the lack of a display driver installed.

so before i install the correct driver, i need to figure out what that is. i don't have much information about the system at all. All the usual automatic searches in windows can't find anything. Intel's driver identifying program didn't turn up a driver for it either, so it may not be an intel card.

Looking on the side, i found that it's a dell machine. there's a service tag: 60PF61J. I went to the dell site and put this number in their driver search. it turned up two video drivers, neither of which work. after some pointlessly overcomplicated unpacking, i truied running the installers and they just claim this system isn't supported, so i'm a bit stumped.

One was a generic dell driver, the other is a Westeern Digital one (i thought they made hard drives??)

so i'm at a loss for now, what should i do next? this pc is pretty unusable while it's stuck in 640x480 resolution (thankfully it's not the one i'm writing from just now )

 

In Device Manager, go to the graphics adapter, right click and select properties.
Provide the Vendor and Device ID as shown. It would also help if you attached an Everest log as a txt file.

I'd guess that the chipset controller needs installing correctly before the installer for video will work.

 

Try running Speccy - http://www.piriform.com/speccy - it may give you the details you need about the video controller.
