How can I tell if have a Firewall?

Hello,

After identification and removal of win32 trojan mappers by a program I am following the protect yourself sticky note. I am at the point of reading about installing firewalls. How can I tell if I have one (both software and hardware?)

Also, if with given instruction I succeed in installing these items would there be any interference with logging from this home pc into a secured workplace connection which has a firewall and other stringent security measures?

My home pc is Windows XP sp2, with Symantec Antivirus 10.1.6.6000, and Ad-Aware 2008 Pro installed. I regularly use a FireFox Browser (version 2.0.0.20.) I think I have the Endpoint version of Symantec available to me so I will look into updating to this.

For others who may have the same question.

Windows Security Center will show you which software firewall you are using and whether it is enabled or not.

For a hardware firewall, you need to check the specifications of your router to determine if it includes one. Most newer routers include one. You just need to make sure it is enabled which should be the default. Many cable and DSL providers are also providing modem/routers that also may have these features.
