I was looking around the internet for programs (shareware and freeware; esp. the latter) since I'm such a download junkie. I found out the best of the software out there is right here at my fingertips. I was equally pleased that the software is tested from a message here, I forgot when.

Through using Kazaa. Kazaa listed all the best freeware sites on the internet and MajorGeeks was on the list.

Short answer: I was searching for answers to some troubleshooting questions and stumbled in here. Noticed the depth of help and the great downloads, and came back until I got hooked and signed up.

Long answer: I'd been a long-time regular at an OLD site called RivaZone that centered around nVidia video cards, although their forum had some great general techies, much like here, today, and some great people. Long after the site lost it's cutting edge news and updates, the forum community remained a great place to hang around. Until the owner finally simply let it die a sudden death. I looked around at a lot of forums and didn't feel at home in any of them until here.

Ironic side note: One of the regulars at RZ was dying of prostate cancer, and had just let us know that the doctors estimated he only had a couple weeks left, and was saying goodby to us. I was literally in the middle of responding to his post when the site died. Never did get to say goodby to him. That still bothers me, a LOT.

Another refugee of Tweakfiles, how I found Majorgeeks, was by accident, was going through old URLs to delete dead entries, clicked tweakfiles and hey what, it came up, so I posted, thats when MA, mentioned that the new site was in test phase and mentioned the url and I registered, like a few other old buggers from TFs & 3Dfiles did just before the site was widely known.

    WOW..... 3yrs+ go past quick!

Never found this place, I was born here. I'm a misguided product of numerous users that have come and gone into the ethersphere from here. An extension of those users mental anguish coupled with over-active imaginations of their pets (mainly cats). Can you see my dilemna here? If so please inform me as to the nature of it as I'm unaware of my own existence not to mention my own intellect.

If you have made sense of this then I seriously worry about your sanity. I came here many, many moons ago through some means that are beyond my capability to fathom.

The site is a great learning tool, also if you need help there are plenty of good people here to help you.

Was looking for a place to meet hot nerdy chicks!

Just kidding. Probably was looking for a free download of something.

For a while I would hang out on JeepsUnlimited and PWCtoday forums, but this one wasn't full of annoying kids trying to BS eveyone, so I decided to stick around.

i bought a new puter a little over a year ago. didn't have a clue how to work it, and was terrified of all the buttons. also bought a digital camera and a psc, only to find that Kodak, windows, and HP don't play nicely together. (something about 'drivers') one of the tech people at one of these companies recommended this site. ive been hooked since. the result is that i am no longer so techno-phobic, and in addition to knowing that i have a vast array of tech help at my fingertips, i have made use of the lounge as everything between my own personal blog, to a source of amusement, to searching info quicker than i can do it on google! i like to think i have made real friends here, and certainly carry the people here in my heart. aloha and may i take this opertunity to thank you all.

I was looking for some answers when I was building a computer...after spending ALOT of time over at the Abit forum...I googled something and since I always look at the url of the google link...I was amused by the name of this place!! So, anyway...I registered and then started piddling around a little bit, and once I realized that it was a great bunch of people, I started LMAO while reading in the lounge and was hooked from there on out!!!!

I did a search for computer forums, as I like to learn and read about solutions to problems. Checked out several, but Major Geeks had the most posts daily and the quickest answers to problems. Lurked in the shadows for quite a while, reading and trying to remember what I was learning. Eventually joined and have found everyone to be helpful and courteous! :)

Know what you mean. There is a programmer at my work that is pretty OK. In fact she would probably be just average if she were a store clerk or something, but because she's a programmer just adds something.

I've always had a thing for hot chicks with glasses. ;)

…….as a by product of this question, “How many people, have you turned on to MajorGeeks?”………..I’ve told 300 or more people about this site……..wobbles

probably about twenty or so. have no idea how many researched this site. most people i know with puters fall into two catagories. those that dont know anything, and are therefore nervous of all things 'geek', and those that think they know everything, and therefore think they dont need anything 'geek' :)

Well I was looking for a good utility program, and I googled it found a reply in one of the forums here. I have been here ever since love the Off base section and way Off base section. I visted the forums often help out when i can, and ask help when I need it. The thing i like about Mg is there are are no immature people that I have seen and everybody helps if a member has a problem.

  37. I actually learned about the site from oldschool g4 (when it was ttv) leo was talin bout this site on tss and i kinda kept it in mind for a while. Then i think i was having a problem with something, remembered this site, and singed up and my question was answered and then some. Im kinda probably the youngest user here. (im a high school sophomore). And i plan on going into the pc field, probably it. So i came here and been hooked ever scince. I also recently started working as an compudoc for hire and come here to stock up on files for myself and when im on the job so i have tools to use when on the job. Found alot of usefull stuff here for myself. Aim fix is a lifesaver for that system guzzler we all call aim. Mine use to like suck like 20 process cycles at a time and be like 20 megs when running aim. After aimfix was run the program is almost weightless on the computer. Also used it to help someone else with an aim problem where they had a worm that would give weird ims. Gave them aimfix and bye bye problem. I can go on forever on how much this site has helped me. Thanks for the many times of dealing with me :D . And teaching me all this stuff.

There have been only a few deaths since even TweakFiles and all were great, helpful people, Grubblebump was no exception there.

Appreciate hearing how you all got here, it is always interesting to me. People like Leo Laporte, Kim Kommando and the like were all helpful getting some of you here, but your reccomending us to others is the greatest referral of all.

    Thank you.

I used to feel guilty referring people to this site because 95% of the time it was for people having Spyware problems and I knew how overworked Chas & BJ were... But now that we have 3 new Malware Fighters I don't really feel bad about it anymore.

  43. On anhedonic's post about the malware forum, i would love to give them a hand in there but i dont understand hjt like they do. I use more simple programs like adaware se personal, ms antispy, spybot s&d, probsbly can figure out any av by looking at it, and use trojan hunter. That's it. When it comes to hjt im lost. Love to help anyway i can though.

3dfiles rejects might like my new project http://www.demonews.com

The backend is mainly done, so I am adding content. I have a logo and other graphics being worked on now, so the downside is it is ugly and incomplete. It reflects my "aging" as a gamer and has a stronger focus on arcade games, cards, word, puzzles, poker and the like. There wont be as many "large" 3d demos to be found there. It is not 3dfile, so dont expect that, either way, have a peek.

MajorGeeks will be here as long as people visit, unless you got 10 million, then we might go away ;) Demonews is a gaming site, a side project. MajorGeeks has 2 large undertakings underway to grow the website, expect to see one of these in a couple weeks, the other in a couple months because the second is much larger and harder.

Anyway, I've been going to MG, for quite a bit of time, but, I never really got into the forum side of things. Though, I did notice that ntcompatible links to MG quite frequently. I wondered at the time if there was a connection.

I moved to MG, after hearing a major ban from a particular person from the NTcompatible forums. Can't remember the nick, as of right now.

I'll be here, off and on, for quite some time.

I was having some particular problems, and my friend said I would like it here. I had never belonged to any forum, but I found the hospitality here mighty fine.

Now, my machine runs more efficiently, and its is maintained with confidence thanks to MG's downloads and member suggestions. I recommend it often, not that most people listen.

It's nice to have somewhere to turn when the fit hits the shan, too.
