how do and please help lol.

how are you all doin? im new here (obviously) but ive actually been looking through this site for a while now. ive gotten alot of useful information from a few of you, and i thank you. seems im not the onlyone having problems with my computer. anyways.....i would appreciate any help i can get on a little problem. i have one computer, that thanks to this site and some freeware i downloaded by sugjestions to others i have cleaned and kept safe and is working great now. i just need to upgrade my RAM. which i will do as soon as i have the spare change. so again to all on major geeks, thanks :cool . now for my new problem. im a newb as far as fixing computers. but i have found a new love in it. its very addicting. anyways, my exwife had a dell computer that she and her hubby loved to download music and games on all the time. most of the music came off of limewire, which i told her several times not to use cause i heard it was an easy way of getting viruses. one day i had stopped in to see my kids while i was passin through town and she was on it. her background was red with a biohazard symbol on it. i told her it was a virus more than likely. all of a sudden the computer started loading, downloading, or uploading files like mad. to fast to even stop it. so she pulled the plug and shut the computer off. she said she took it in to have it checked out (which i highly doubt knowing her) so she bought a new one. and gave me the crashed one. it was custom built for gaming and has some nice hardware on it. and would really love to use it. but i cant even get it to turn on. i know power is getting to it. but i dont know if its fried beyond repair or im just not doing something right. if someone can help me in figuring out my first steps i would much appreciate it. i want to completely wipe it clean. she has files on there that she doesnt want anyone to see. so is there anyway of fixing it? im sure if anyone can tell me, its you all. thanks for any information. and sorry for rambling.

 

Have you opened it up yet to look for loose wires or cables? Try reseating everything. I really doubt a virus physically took the rig out, can you restore to factory defaults, I believe it's tapping F2 while booting.

 

just wantin to say thanks for the advise. i did open it up several times and cleaned hell out of it. im sapprised the fans hadnt burned themselves up. but everything i could see was attached where it was sapposed to be. so i plugged it in and walla....power. i felt like an idiot. but i got it to turn on and no red screen or biohazard symbol anymore. now i dont know how that fixed itself bein its been about 6 months since it was last turned on or had power to it. but it was gone. so all i did was was deleted the partitions and reloaded windows. was easier than i thought. its workin great now. i did change somethin in it though either through F12 or F2 ill figure it out shortly. but anyways. again i thank those of you that replied and those that have had problems before me. if it wasnt for you all i wouldnt know what i was lookin for. preciate all your help. take care, injoy :cool
