I tried to use partition magic to add a partition to my 250 gig usb2 external hard drive, so that I can install Linux, but it only shows my internal Hard drive C: and it's partition D:. I tried uninstalling PM and reinstalling it in drive I, but I can't seem to get it to run in that drive. How do I partition a usb2 HD, or get PM to recognize it?

Is it recognized in My computer? If so , is it in control panel / admin tools / disk management?

Yes, it is recognized as drive I and J in my computer since it already has a small partition because it's a clone of my old drive which is partitioned as C and D. But when I go to control panel, I don't see admin tools / disk management. I'm running the dread ME.

Oh, been forever since I delt with ME .....if you right click on the drive and choose properties, what does it give you?
How big is your internal hard drive ...ME (9x) doesn't support Large block addressing (LBA) and you need to have advanced bios settings to enable that .....fat 16 only goes to 8.4 gigs.

yeah it seems that you version of PM doesn't support such big drives. for partitioning drive i use disk director(i don'tnow remember version), and when i bought 300Gb drive and tried to partition it, Disk Director didn't detect it, so i went to there site and found out that my version was a bit old, then i downloaded(made an upgrade) a newer one, after this all worked quite fine!

ah Jeez, now I got a different problem, I went ahead and downloaded Ubuntu and tried to install it, I found that it had it's own partition tool and so I set aside 22gig just to make sure I'd have enough, then the install failed, so now I've lost 22 gig from my HD, when I go to my computer drive I is now smaller, but I can't find the partition I made. I should just give up I guess, I've been wasting too damn much time on this.
I wonder if they still sell those web tv things "as seen on tv".
