how do I change size of swapfile?

want to change size of WinXP swapfile.

 

Right click the My Computer icon and select Properties. On the Advanced tab, click Performance Settings. Then on the Performance Options, click Advanced.

 

Start--> Control Panel--> System then see thumbnail attached.

It all depends on how much RAM you have installed to determine the best setting.

MS says set it to 1.5 times installed RAM.

In my case I have 2 gigs RAM, so MS recommends 3 gigs size (2gigs x 1.5). Complete and utter waste of hard drive space, for my PC, IMO.

Have set mine to 500 megs, a saving of over 2.5 gigs of hard drive space.

If you only have 512megs of RAM, or less, then maybe MS is correct.

I use System Information for Windows from http://www.gtopala.com/ to see how much allocated space is actually being used. See thumbnail.

Set Maximum and Minimum sizes to the same, for best results. Mine are 500/500 as an example (depends on your RAM and program usage)

I've had mine set to 500/500 for a long time. I had to give the grey cells a workout to remember how to set Swapfile too.

Still recommend installing SIW to experiment with MS recommended size versus actual usage (then double actual usage to be on the safe side, and set it accordingly). Bazza
