How Do I Clean This Off My Laptop Screen?

Hi guys. I have this weird line on my screen that I can't seem to clean off. Please see picture below:

It looks like some sort of dirt, but even when I try to whether scratch it off with my fingernails or wipe the screen vigorously with a damp piece of cloth, it won't budge an inch. Do you guys have any idea what I should try next?

 

If it is not on the outside, there is nothing you can do unless you want to totally disassemble the display panel. Can you feel it with your finger?

I would suggest getting some lens cleaner and fine microfiber cloth used to clean eyeglasses.

 

Hi Digerati, thanks for your reply. I can actually feel it with my fingers, but I can't freaking scratch it off. Weird. Screen wipes with isopropyl alcohol (with a hell lot of force applied) didn't work.

 

And you feel it as something on top of the screen? That is, are you sure it is not a scratch?

Do be careful with things like Isopropyl alcohol as that is a solvent and LCD screens are not glass, but a type of plastic, or coated with various anti-glare surfaces. Test in a small section of a corner.

 

Thanks for the heads-up. Fortunately, the alcohol didn't ruin my screen. It might be a scratch, but it would have to be a very jagged one, and I wouldn't know what caused it. I don't clean my laptop very often, so I just thought it was dirt coming off of the keyboard. Anyway, if it's actually a scratch, what can I do about it?

 

If a scratch, I don't think there is anything you can do but live with it, replace the whole screen, or attach an external monitor. Sorry.
