i was thinking about a program, if someone can help me remember the title. A co-worker needs to run it at work, because they are cracking down on "non-work related" internet surfing. Are there anymore freeware programs that complete clean up your "tracks" thanks

Depends on how smart the IT guy is. I am an IT guy for a company full of people like your friend so I block the traffic going out to the web. So "clearing his tracks" might not help. Also I know there are some appliances out there that will actually let me see what you go to on my network.

clearing temporary files of all sorts (a program like CCleaner makes this easy) would do it.

However, your friend just needs to stop on non-work related surfing. If their IT is even halfway competent, they will have a record of where you went, when you went there, and from which computer. It won't be stored on that computer, but more than likely a seperate server that may or may not be in the same building.

Easy to clean up on the local PC (CCleaner) but all internet traffic is going to be going through a company server (unless it's a tiny company and using dial up...).

Nothing you can do about that and yes, it can trace it back to your PC and tell everyone who's interested when and where your friend shouldn't have been.

The alternative is of course to do some work instead... ;-)

Agree with Orbital57. You can clean your local PC, but evidence still remains on the network.

The evidence will be in plain view for the network, however don't think for a minute that the HD is not open for 'forensic recovery'.

Simply deleting files and emptying the recycle bin will not do!....windows tells all, unless ofcourse you format the drive and wipe clean the data clusters!

    Regards...

Wouldn't that at least tell them you had something to hide?
