How do I control my router?

Whenever my sister is downloading something, it uses up the download limit cap. In turn, I get very slow connection. Problem is sometimes she just leave the PC on while downloading something. This irritate me bcoz I have so much lag when I try to play any online games

So, I'm just wondering how do I access my own router to limit the download speed on my sister's computer? I tried unplugging the cables at the back of the router, but lol... I get disconnected when one or both of the cables are unplugged.

I'm using SMC7004VWBR router.

 

I dont think youll be able to actually set how fast your computers download. you can access your router from a computer attached to it. go into your internet explorer and type the ip address of your router in the url bar. youll get prompted for the username and password. im not sure what they are, ive never used that kind of router. some possibilities could be Username: admin Password: password or Username: admin Password: admin if those dont work, google it. just enter in your modle number and whatever else it asks you for on the site. i dont know your part number and all that. i tried to find it but wouldnt give it to me without that.

if you dont want your sister using the internet when youre playing your game, just disconnect her cable from the router.:major

 

oh oh pick me, actually thats probably just gonna cause more issues then solve anything ie fights between who controls the bandwidth. Better idea is to talk with her & parents and explain that her downloading is causing you problems and maybe you guys need to out some sort of schedule in which shes allowed to download and thus giving her a chance to download but also giving you time to game. Basically any tech solution is likely to just cause a arguments and such. Much better to go and talk stuff over.
