You failed to mention the extension on the videos. I assume they are from your video camera. It also helps if you give the brand and exact model camera you used.

    Thanks for your replies :)

Sorry they are photo files from my camera. I used a Nikon D5300 on Jpeg

No, I chose the DVD section if that helps?

Please can you recommend one please?

jpeg is not animated video. jpeg is a still picture.
    specs https://imaging.nikon.com/lineup/dslr/d5300/spec.htm
The animated video would be a mov file type.
So, are we talking a bunch of still photos or a video?

Instead of me starting a new thread, I thought I would give an update on here.

I burnt off some photo files of my Devon trip last septemberonto a Virbitim DVD-R and I had the finalise tab on. I then tried to play them in my dads Sony DVD player. A message came up saying data error (photo) and monotonouse piano music started playing. Some of the photo's work, but the majority of them were just a black screen with this message. I've saved them as Jpegs, at the beginning.

When I put the disk in, there was a yellow folder saying 'root folder' should I have clicked on this? And what does data error (photo) mean? Thanks.

Older commercial DVD players have limited support for DVD types and formats.
Verbatim is an excellent brand but you should use DVD+R.
What software did you use to burn the disc? And was it completely blank?

Ashampoo and i clicked the finalise tab. Yes, disk never been used before

I never knew that, are they better to play in DVD players?

    Yes.

I've always been told that -R's were better. Perhaps that is where I'm going wrong. -R's are only best used in a PC then?

Ashampoo free I used. The thing is I have lots of photo's in my rack that been copied onto Verbitim -R over the years. Do you think they be ok? Or am I better off putting them onto a +R?

It worked OK when I burnt them with Picassa, but that doesn't exist anymore.

Read the manual for the standalone DVD player. One of ours only accepts DVD-R and another only accepts DVD+R! If you burned to the wrong type DVD, it would not play.

It was a pain, when I burned DVDs to have spindles of two different types and figure out where I wanted play a certain DVD.
Does the standalone accept USB sticks? One of ours does and it is easier to put things on a stick and play them that way.

Just burning the photos to a DVD (or CD) will only work if the DVD supports JPEG files.
You need to use a program to create a slideshow that'll save it as a video file in order to view it on a commercial DVD player.
