    Hi,

    I'm running XP Pro on a P3 w/o SP2

I have somehow wound up with a file that contains invalid characters and I can't delete or rename it.

    ba_on_2003_11_03_05_L(1(.jpg

I've tried the recycle bin, tried setting the recycle bin to delete files right away, tried DOS rename, del, del *.*, tried file shredder, tried delinvfile.exe, have run chkdsk several times, reset permissions and tried to delete from admin account..

I tried deleting using short filename in DOS.. I get an exclamation point warning in my taskbar saying the file or directory is corrupt and unreadable.

How do I get rid of this file?

    Thanks,
    Not-so-Smiley Mike

Have you tried Dellater? Just a thought. That's what I'd try to hit it with.

It's a tiny freeware control that you can put in the root (C:, usually) for easy access, and then run either from a custom shortcut you make or just from Start, Run...

It deletes the file on the next boot. The boot leaves the file inactive. DelLater gets it before Windows can lock it, too.

I use it from Run... all the time: Start, Run, type C:\Dellater.exe <path to file I want killed>. Hit OK. A pop-up confirms the name of the file that is scheduled for death. Reboot. Done.

Read about and Download DelLater THERE.
