How do I get my site to the first page of Google?

Hello all. Not sure if this is the right place for this question, but it pertains to Search Engine Optimization. I have a webpage that I created. I submitted the URL to google and a few other search engines. If I enter the url into Google search, it appears as the first result. However, if I try entering any of my keywords, it doesn't come up at all.

Are there any web designers on here that can help me out? How do I make it so Google will find my website by using my keywords?

Try http://www.google.com/webmasters/start/ and http://googleblog.blogspot.com/2008/07/introduction-to-google-ranking.html

Unless you pay a small fortune to have your page listed at top, then you will need to have a website that has info in your business idea to be popular to folk so that once they go through many alike sites they start to click yours more, or have your homepage listed url on other popular sites.. however BIG WARNING with posting your url on other sites is that it is in many cases called pimping and doing this off the back of already popular sites is frouned upon.

Don't pluralise your keywords, keep them simple and correctly spelled, think about the words that people may search for and use those.

This excellent blog One Cool Site is full of that sort of tips. It's made for WordPress.com bloggers but many more of tips apply generally.
