how do I keep windows media player from hanging or freezing?

I am attempting to load a rather large cd on to WMP and when I go to the drop down menu and choose the cd the application hangs. I have loaded this cd before and listened to it, I just don't want to save it to my harddrive.


I have a Dell Dimension E510, OS is WIndows XP Pro, Spk3.


I am attempting to make my daughter a cd from some of the music on the disc that causes the hang.

I tried to do a system restore, thinking perhaps something was downloaded that was causing the problem but was unable to and was told to try again. When I did it failed to restore and was prompted to try again.

Anyone have any clues as to what I can do? Everything was working properly just days ago.

 

What version are you running? The latest is version Windows Media Player 11: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/player/11/default.aspx

 

Was running ver 10. Installed 11 and it frooze up too. still cannot perform system restore. It goes through the whole process and then says Restoration incomplete.

I recently reinstalled my OS, could that have anything to do with being unable to restore?

Do you have any codec packs installed? K-lite or some other pack? If so you should perhaps update it? New versions are issued ever so often.

 

Ok, now you're just speaking greek to me. How would I know I needed a codec?

The inability to do a system restore is worrying me!

 

Anyone have any idea why the system restore says Restore incomplete?
