How do I permanently remove "Get a Google-enhanced search box" notice?

My home page is google.com because I don't like seeing ads the first time I log onto the Internet. Lately, I've been seeing a google advertisement in the upper right hand corner reading "Get a Google-enhanced search box" and a button that leads to "Download Google Toolbar". Clicking on the x gets rid of the ad for the session, but when I shut down and boot back up to the Internet, that Download Google Toolbar ad reappears. I tried installing Download Google Toolbar and then turning off Google Toolbar using the tools pulldown menu, but the Download Google Toolbar ad reappeared.

How do I permanently remove the "Get a Google-enhanced search box" notice/Download Google Toolbar ad from the google.com page that appears on my computer screen?

 

I never get it using Firefox with Adblock Plus plugin.

 

The Google self advertisement has been gone for about a week. It probably was some campaign by Google to get more installations for their Google Toolbar. The only reason I use Google as a home page is because it doesn't have any ads on it. Lesson learned by Google, I hope.
