How do I repair WinXP "My Pictures Slideshow"

With the help of the many suggestions on this wonderful website, we were able to win our battle with SpywareNo, Win32.Bagle.CL and EG, Win32.Netsky.AA, Trojan.Downloader.Bagle.H and we are relieved!

However, the thing that alerted us in the first place that weird things were going on -the screensaver- still doesn't function properly. To be more precise, it previews just fine, and works when set to 1 minute, but doesn't work when set to anything over 1 minute. We have tried the other standard screensavers and they too only work when set to 1 muinute. How do we repair this? We can't find any information anywhere!

We do not have a WinXP installation disk, and we'd rather not refer back to the backup DVD made upon purchase because we are afraid it isn't any good. Also, since we just defeated the worms etc. we have no restore points left to refer back to. However, we have two side-by-side (WinXP) desktop computers that are combined into a little network, so we are able to share files.

    Any helpful suggestions are welcome,
    Thanks!

    Petrab

The screensaver issue is not malware related so I would recommend posting this in the software forum.

I disagree. The malfunctioning is a direct result of malware.
Besides, already asked there. Someone told me to run EasyCleaner.
    It didn't help.

The term "malfunctioning" does not apply with a screensaver. It either works or it doesn't.

Explain to me how a screensaver alerts you of an infection?

Attach a current HJT log so I can confirm your system is clean.

-> Not true; It works, but not correctly.

Your log shows no sign of an infection, however I do have a question.

What is the below and why is it running from your desktop?

    C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Desktop\explorer.exe

Fine, that's what we thought, that we beat the worms.
The thing you mention is a shortcut put in the quick launch toolbar.
Now... what about the screensaver issues?

Your logs are clean! I'm not sure exactly what the problem is with your screensaver but it does not appear to be malware related.

As previously stated this belongs in the Software Forum. Mentioned to them you had your system checked and everything appeared clean.

As BJ has stated, it is unlikely that your screen saver problems are malware related. I have seen this kind of problem occur due to Windows Messenger activating about every minute and causing the screen save to abort.

Suggestion, run the below to remove Windows Messenger:

    Disable/Remove Windows Messenger
