How do i rollback to ie6?

I want to rollback from ie7 to ie6 but the install app reports "a newer version of the program is already installed - operation aborted!" and a system restore didn't help. What am i doing wrong?

On a similar thought, how do i make firefox my default browser? My computer came with ie6 preinstalled and is more intuitive than v7.

I would advise against using ie6 based solely on UI since ie7 has better security and support.

Anyway, you can uninstall IE7 in the control panel -> add or remove programs. Then, if IE6 doesn't come back, you should be able to run the IE6 installer. Honestly, the only times I have removed IE7 was so I could re-install IE7, so I don't know exactly how it will work installing IE6.

In the add and remove programs list, you will also see the "set program access and defaults" tab to the left. Under custom, you can select what you want to be the default program.

I assumed you were using Windows XP. That is what I geared my instructions toward.

add/remove software does not allow removal of ie7. It only gives two links to ms tech support and kb. Never saw that before. No option to remove. Strange?

Download CCleaner and click on the Tools button on the left hand side. IE7 should appear in the list. Highlight then click Uninstall.

 

thats odd, it lets me uninstall thru control panel
